Our vow renewal with family

5 of 5
Our stay started in the evening, so we were not able to get the full impression of the home until the morning. That first evening was spent casually touring the home and all it had to offer, which was everything you could really need for a little vacation and more. From the wonderfully laid out kitchen, to the open living room and dining room, there was little need for anything to be comfortable. The cozy den in the cornerof the home, sharing a fireplace with the living room was a lovely start to our first morning. Of course, the views were terrific and from the roof top deck, you can see a 360 panorama of Casco Bay and Harpswell Sound. World famous Cooks Lobster House is clearly visible from the dining room and front deck and well within walking distance. That first morning did pose the first issue we experienced during our stay in that the bed was so comfortable and the sunlight streaming through the windows made it difficult to get up (a problem we faced each morning). We renewed our wedding vows that Saturday and had no issues with parking (there's a little spot to park extra cars just before you reach the house on the main road). There was never a question whether or not we could entertain the number of people who arrived and all the room provided us an wonderful, intimate and easy gathering of family and friends. With some hired kitchen help, the lobster, clams and beverages flowed throughout the afternoon and everyone was sated. There was plenty of seating for everyone, and room for the kids to move around (the basement houses a wonderful entertainment area that resembles a small movie theater and most of the kids spent their time there). Overall, our trip was wonderful and we hope to plan another stay there soon. I have suggested this venue to several friends and passed the pictures on to them. A wonderful home away from home.

Peaceful, Relaxing, Beautiful Home

5 of 5
This was the second property I booked through VRBO and have yet to be disappointed. I researched a number of places for our trip to Portland, ME and this was on the top of our list based on the pictures. I emailed Terry and Sarah, and they were great in responding to my numerous questions. We (myself, my wife, 2 kids under 3, and another couple with a toddler) pleasantly surprised the rental offered two pack n' plays for the kids which came in handy. When we got there, the pictures were spot on. The view of water was fantastic, and the house was perfect for our group. It was family friendly, with a great kitchen for us to make breakfast. It also had a nice bar area downstairs where we can hang out and have drinks. There was also a booklet with very useful information that we referenced throughout the trip (it's the little things that make a difference). Throughout the stay, Terry and Sarah answered our numerous questions, including pointing us to a few places where we could get fresh lobster. We ended up going to a location they recommended, and when we brought it back, Terry offered to cook it for us! He had guests over, but he still went out of his way to help us out. That was not necessary, but very much appreciated! It was by far the best lobster we've ever had. They also have a dock with kayaks and canoes for use, but we didn't use it because it was a bit chilly, however the option is very nice. Shortly after we returned back home, Terry and Sarah mailed us our deposit back. Just great service all around. I highly recommend this place if you want to stay near Portland. It is about a 45 min drive into town, but the place is well worth it.

Family home that could make anyone happy

5 of 5
After living in Windham for most of my life, I was very hesitant when my dad told me we were moving to Portland. I had very high expectations for this house if he was having us move from a lake side property, to a house in the city. But I must say, my expectations were met and then some. I couldn't believe the size of the place, and how huge the yard was. Living here made it very easy to have friends stay over and be able to stay out of my dad’s hair. When we stayed there I had multiple gatherings of 40+ people, for things like prom and graduation, and everyone was comfortably moving around the house. The patio was a perfect background for pictures. The patio was actually one of my favorite things about the house; it is a beautifully built, and there was a guaranteed view of the sunset every night. With the huge field and the Portland Trail System near by, it was a nice way to get out of the city while still being there. Having the lawn maintained was another huge thing. As you can tell there is a lot of lawn to maintain so it was nice to have such a willing and helpful property manager to take care of things like that. Patrick was always friendly and never bothered by the tasks we asked him to do for us. I would most definitely recommend this house to anyone and everyone. It’s a less than 10 minute drive from the city, and about 20 minutes to surrounding towns like Windham, Westbrook, and Falmouth. One of my favorite activities while living there would have to be snow shoeing the trails in the winter; they lead to a big open field, about a 5-10 minute walk, that is good for dogs or kids, to go run around in. Having the convenience of Amato’s about 5 minutes away was also a plus of this estate.
