Stunning home that anchors idyllic spot in Maine!

5 of 5
Location: The house sits only a few feet from one of the nicest beaches in Maine. At high tide the waves gently lap 25ft from the edge of the yard, at low tide you will find 150ft of sand and lots of room to play. The house is a few miles from the Owl’s Head lighthouse, the Owl’s Head General Store (that serves great burgers) and the Knox County Airport (KRKD), should you wish to fly rather than drive approx. 3hrs from Boston. The town of Rockland is only 5 mi /12 min away. The town boasts many delightful restaurants and shops without feeling as touristy as Camden or Bar Harbor. We ate at Primo (fantastic for foodies, reservations required in advance), Café Mira, 3Crows and Rustica. On the north end of town we found a great grocery store (Shaw’s) and a Walmart should you forget something. Day trips to Camden, Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor provided lots to see and do. House: The house itself is as beautiful as the pictures. Recently constructed by a family as a private home, it is perfectly set up for two families with younger children or a family of four traveling with one set of grandparents. The master bedroom has a very comfortable queen bed, large bath and a private deck. There are two children’s rooms each that have built in twin beds with full sized trundles (a feat accomplished because of the slope of the roof). There is an office with a pull out couch. They share a bath at that end of the hall. Downstairs, with a fair amount of privacy is another queen bedded room with its own bath. The house has many porches, interesting nooks and places to hang out and read or watch all the boats go by. The kitchen is fully furnished and there is a grill for use as well. The house comes equipped with 4 kayaks and lots of beach toys and games. We played nightly badminton matches on the back lawn. Final thoughts: For those considering a trip to Maine, I don’t think you will find a better place to call home for a week. The owners could not have been any nicer to work with or more accommodating and their home is one of the nicest we have ever had the opportunity to borrow for a week.

Cozy, peaceful... the Heart of Maine is here!!!

5 of 5
What a Find!!! I feel like I have been looking for just this kind of place for years... If you love Maine, and want to be able to commune with the ocean, enjoy the peace and quiet of a rustic but cozy, little cabin, this is a place for you!! I spent the weekend there with my dog - we were both in heaven the whole time. The classic rocky beach right outside your door, hear the ocean at night, watch the beautiful sunrise over the islands with your coffee, appreciate the moonlight on the ocean outside, as the woodstove heats up the cozy space inside. I cooked a few meals, had lobster on the picnic table outside the cabin with my mom on Mother's Day (she lives nearby), found the composting toilet totally doable and not an issue. I enjoyed walks on the beach with the dog, and around the neighborhood... the general store nearby is adorable, and features some local products, including wine made at a nearby winery! Rockland, which is only about ten minutes away, has great restaurants and shops. I'm looking forward to exploring more of the outdoor activities with my dog, on my next trip, which I've already booked!! This is truly a magical place. And the owners, Audrey and Rich, are absolutely lovely and kind... Maine people you can trust. And Bert, of course, their Newfoundland... Everything about this place is special. Treat yourself.

Away from it all (but not too far away)

5 of 5
This lovely cabin is located in Owls Head, a peninsula just south of Rockland, Rockport and Camden. There is a very nice feeling of privacy there but you are no more than 15-20 minutes away from all the amenities you could ask for. The view is incredible, from both the huge living room window and the deck, and the sunsets are gorgeous. What a beautiful way to wake up each morning. The cabin is clean, rustic, spacious and well equipped and the king bed is very comfortable. It's a perfect spot for a couple. We enjoyed kayaking right in front of the house and around to the beautiful Owls Head Lighthouse (kayaks can be easily rented and delivered right to the cabin). We hiked on the magnificent and remote Monhegan Island, a highly recommended day trip, and golfed at beautiful nearby Samoset Resort. We cooked at home half the time (kitchen is well stocked but you might want to bring a good chef's knife) and ate out the rest. Many good restaurants in the area, including the delectable Primo, right down the road. No worry if you can't get reservations, Primo has tables and a bar upstairs where you don't need them. Get fresh lobsters from the dockside just past the Owls Head Light or at Jess's market where they are equally fresh (don't miss the seafood chowder at Jess's if they have it.) Rockland and Camden are both lovely towns to wander around in and find your favorite eating and shopping spots. Overall a terrific location and very comfortable accommodations for a very reasonable rate. We would definitely come back here again.
