Better Than a 5-Star Hotel

5 of 5
Better Than a 5-Star Hotel My husband and I booked our Maine vacation nearly a year before our arrival date and counted the days off the calendar as we looked forward to our first trip to the east coast in over 30 years...we were not disappointed. Everything was as described in the listing...the cottage, the location, and the view were PERFECT! Not only was the cottage well stocked with absolutely everything we needed, but it was the first rental we didn't have to clean before we unpacked...it even smelled clean. The living quarters are on the top floor, which provides the best view of the ocean, just a few steps away. Don't miss the sunrise, or having that first cup of coffee on the cottage deck. It is absolutely the best part of the day! We loved watching the lobstermen from the rocks as they pulled their traps on a calm day and the waves crashing against the rocks when the ocean was rough. Marilyn and John have thought of everything. On the counter near the phone were two binders of information about the area and about everything we needed to know about the cottage. It included emergency phone numbers and details about everything from trash pick-up to the whole-house generator that comes on automatically if power is lost during a storm etc. On the coffee table were directions for operating the remotes for the TV, DVR, Stereo, and gas fireplace. The Cupboard Cafe was the place to go for breakfast...the omelets and sticky buns were to die for. Shaws Lobster Wharf (where scenes from "Message in a Bottle" were filmed) have the best fried clams in the area and is so close you could walk there. Moody's Diner and Deb's Diner were also among our favorite places to eat at VERY reasonable prices. We plan to make a vacation at Suite Thyme Cottage a yearly tradition and have already booked a two-week stay for next fall. A shopping trip to LL Bean is on the agenda for next year along with lots of other attractions we just didn't have enough time for during our first stay. Thank you Marilyn and John for the perfect Maine vacation!

A perfect Maine vacation

5 of 5
As we drove down Pemiquid Trails to the Laughing Gull cottage we admired the beautiful homes along the ocean and the quiet of the street. And then we came to the cottage, we could tell it was a log cabin built many years ago and situated on a perfect piece of property. The windows had window boxes with beautiful yellow and blue wildflowers. The property was extremely well manicured, and the pine trees in the front on the ocean side couldn’t have been more picturesque. Two white picket chairs sitting there, just waiting for us to come out with a good glass of wine and watch the Sun set. Once we entered the cabins, we immediately left all the stress at the door; we felt like we were home. The cabin was beautiful, well-appointed and so peaceful. Every amenity was thought of and we needed to bring nothing but our clothes, books and food. The cabin was immaculately clean and smelled fresh. The kitchen had every cooking utensil you would need, even Lobster plates and a lobster pot! Plenty of dishes, silverware even a poaching pan for eggs. We found additional treats, such as, the bathroom had a heater, the bed had a mattress warmer and propane heater that could heat the whole house. The small barn out back had more than enough fire wood to satisfy the beautiful ocean stone fireplace, it was huge and burned beautiful fires – what a treat. Plenty of activities to do within a close ride, lot of trials, and sites to see, good restaurants. Additionally two well-maintained bikes were in the barn for our use. The Host was also in residence and came over to introduce himself and ask if we needed anything to give him a call. It is a good feeling to have the owner close by – just in case. We are so pleased with finding the Laughing Gull that we have booked two weeks next year. Kathie and Jonathan
