"Pet friendly" is a bit of a misnomer

                  5 of 5
We had a great vacation here and wholeheartedly agree with everything the other reviewers mentioned -- the house is huge, comfortable, centrally located for exploring all of MDI and Acadia, and has a very well-equipped kitchen. The property is also extremely private -- you won't hear or see a neighbor in any direction. And while the property doesn't have direct water access, it's less than a five minute drive to Great Long Pond where you can inexpensively rent kayaks, canoes and paddleboards from National Park Canoe and Kayak Rental. The listing mentions "We gladly welcome pets" but this really understates what the property has to offer. This house is not "pet-friendly"..."doggie nirvana" is more like it!! This place is paradise for dogs. I don't know how many acres the house sits on but it's an amazing spot. To start with, the house sits at the end of a 0.1 mile gravel driveway so it's well-removed from the road. The front yard has a huge lawn and is surrounded by woods, and the backyard has a small deck and is also surrounded by woods. We were able to leave our dogs outside for hours at a time as they chased deer, explored the woods and sunned themselves on the lawn. Our dogs clearly enjoyed themselves as much as we did. It's worth mentioning that MDI is extremely pet-friendly (including shops, restaurants, and most hikes in Acadia Nat'l Park), so bring your pup! Stop by Bark Harbor (a pet store on Main Street in Bar Harbor) who can give you a current list of pet-friendly restaurants on MDI, and find Farmer Brown at either of the farmers markets for some awesome bones your dog will love. Overall we loved the house, highly recommend it, and plan to come back again ourselves next year.

                  Great House

                  5 of 5
Just got back from spending a week at this great house with 9 adults and 1 child. We rented the main house and the downstairs apartment and it was everything described plus more. The house is very clean, well equipped, and it allowed all of us to spread out and enough seating to have meals together. The location is excellent - 4 miles to Bar Harbor and 1 mile to two different Park entrances. One of the entrances brings you onto the loop right below sand beach. Back deck provides great mountain views and the yard was perfect for corn hole. Plenty of parking for 4 cars and if we didn't want to drive we could have taken the island bus which runs along the street.

                  It's a jewel

                  5 of 5
We stayed at Ledgeview for a week with 2 small kids in late August of 2010. Looking for a place to get away from the bustle of large city, this turned out to be just an ideal place for us. We loved the location (sunset on Cadillac Mountain, walks around Bar Harbor and sea-side treks were our favorites), the food and the place itself. The house has this great rustic charm, and if not for the kids, we would have stayed at the patio the whole time. Lora and Dick were most pleasant and went out of their way to help us. Definitely planning to come back! Alan & Elena
