We had a great vacation here and wholeheartedly agree with everything the other reviewers mentioned -- the house is huge, comfortable, centrally located for exploring all of MDI and Acadia, and has a very well-equipped kitchen. The property is also extremely private -- you won't hear or see a neighbor in any direction. And while the property doesn't have direct water access, it's less than a five minute drive to Great Long Pond where you can inexpensively rent kayaks, canoes and paddleboards from National Park Canoe and Kayak Rental.
The listing mentions "We gladly welcome pets" but this really understates what the property has to offer. This house is not "pet-friendly"..."doggie nirvana" is more like it!! This place is paradise for dogs. I don't know how many acres the house sits on but it's an amazing spot. To start with, the house sits at the end of a 0.1 mile gravel driveway so it's well-removed from the road. The front yard has a huge lawn and is surrounded by woods, and the backyard has a small deck and is also surrounded by woods. We were able to leave our dogs outside for hours at a time as they chased deer, explored the woods and sunned themselves on the lawn. Our dogs clearly enjoyed themselves as much as we did.
It's worth mentioning that MDI is extremely pet-friendly (including shops, restaurants, and most hikes in Acadia Nat'l Park), so bring your pup! Stop by Bark Harbor (a pet store on Main Street in Bar Harbor) who can give you a current list of pet-friendly restaurants on MDI, and find Farmer Brown at either of the farmers markets for some awesome bones your dog will love.
Overall we loved the house, highly recommend it, and plan to come back again ourselves next year.
