We cannot say enough about how much we enjoyed our week at Mill Point. The cottage is just gorgeous, roomy, bright and cheery, beautifully constructed, with lots of glass to let the outdoors in. There are numerous little gems about the place such as large window seats everywhere, and a second floor balcony that looks through a spruce tree right onto the waves crashing ashore on the rocks below. One feels like an osprey perched in a tree here!
The location is amazing. The cottage is basically on a small island, but not quite an island because you can drive right up to it by way of a narrow causeway about 1/4 mile long. We felt like royalty here with this whole island all to ourselves for the week. If you have never been on an island in Maine before, you are in for a unique treat of shady woods, soft grass beneath your feet, abundant bird life all around you, all washed by the soft, cool ocean air. The sounds of waves on rocks and smells of ocean will lull you to sleep at night. It is an ever changing place, from bright warm sunshine to mysterious fog which blows in and out, sometimes in fanciful wisps across the water.
The cottage itself is well supplied and we did not feel at all deprived being off the grid as nearly all the comforts of home are provided. There are two medium sized gas powered refrigerators, a fabulous gas range, gas powered lights all around the house, headlamps and battery powered lanterns all about. There are the usual electric appliances as well, if you wish to start the generator and run them; microwave, blender and so forth, but for us the quiet of being "unplugged" was a rare treat. There is no internet here, and even cell reception is a bit spotty (high tide works better!) so get ready to un-tether yourself from the modern chatter for a bit and find out the world goes on quite nicely without you checking in on it all day.
The owners and local care takers are all wonderful people and you will feel well cared for during your stay.
