What a wonderful place, the best kind of place, full of natural beauty that is so well cared for and in turn nurtures the intriguing and beautiful wildlife. Such views of the bay, shore, and islands! We saw 48 species of birds on the 30+ acres we roamed which makes a wonderful accompaniment to the setting in sight and sound. We loved to hear the hermit thrush sing its flute-like melody. We loved the chorus of frogs too. The sounds were not at all overpowering, but gentle like the waves pulling across the stones at the shoreline. That sounds like soft applause. We saw harbor porpoises and seals breaching in the bay. Every moment had its enchantment.
The Barn itself is a treat with every detail lovingly placed. Every need is anticipated. Just the right accent of antiques and collectibles, comfy furniture, braided rugs, and wonderful books on local history and natural history and more. We loved the old beams and the decoration (colors) is so welcoming. Eric had wood laid out in the fireplace and plenty more ready at hand. The landscaping is beautiful and I love the small rock sculptures in unexpected places.
It was just the right spot to travel to amazing places too. We enjoyed Acada, Great Waas, The Bold Coast, Quoddy Head, Lubec, Campobello Island, Jonesport, and Machias--each with their charms.
Betty makes beautiful luminaries and we love Sugar, the aptly named pooch! Such good people here, unobtrusive, but helpful and friendly at every turn when sought out.
We'll be back!
