Spectacular House, Views and Location

5 of 5
Aerie is an excellent property for either "active" or "relaxation-oriented" guests. The house has an exceptional combination of decks, windows and vistas which provide superb views of Frenchman's Bay and the adjacent coastlines. The house is very well equipped for "visiting chefs" and for those who enjoy reading, playing movies/games, absorbing the spectacular sunsets, nature-watching, etc.. We enjoyed nearby hiking (Schoodic Mtn, Black Mtn), kayaking (Donnell Pond, Sullivan Bay, Frenchman's Bay) and bicycling/walking in the peaceful, lightly traveled Hancock Point neighborhoods. There are a wide range of restaurants and food offerings nearby. Aerie's location offers visitors equally convenient access to either the quieter Downeast coastal area or the more recognized, busier Bar Harbor region.

Perfect Family Getaway

5 of 5
My family of 8 (husband, kids, parents, brother + significant other) stayed at the chalet as a celebratory getaway after my brother graduated from pharmacy school. The chalet was in an excellent location, offering privacy yet close proximity to Hancock and Acadia National Park. We took advantage of the kayaks to explore the island across the way. The house was very clean, fully stocked with everything you could possibly need and large enough to allow some alone time when you want it. The owner, Shawn, responded promptly to all of our questions.

Wow!

5 of 5
This year our vacation had to include one of the two states my wife had never visited. The choice was Maine or North Dakota. Hmmm…scenic Atlantic coastline or flat prairies sprinkled with intercontinental ballistic missiles? Pretty obvious which one got chosen. After stopping along the way to visit New York City and Boston on the way from Virginia, we adults were ready for a peaceful vacation. When we arrived we thought that we might have turned into the wrong driveway—this looked like a model home, not a vacation rental built at least 10 years ago. The interior was spotlessly clean, all the furniture and appliances were new. It was almost as big as our home back in Virginia and the floor plan easily accommodated the interpersonal dynamics associated with two teenage girls and one ten year old boy. The location was pretty close to perfect. The house is located in the middle of wild blueberries with a view of Egypt Bay. We got our first introduction to the tides watching the bay fill up and empty sitting on the deck of the house. From a logistics point of view, the house is close to Ellsworth where there is a Hannaford grocery store where you can buy almost anything edible you can think of; within reason. We only ate out once, the rest of the meals we prepared in the well equipped kitchen. From a vacation perspective, everything we wanted to do and see was within a reasonable drive: Acadia National Park all the way to Roosevelt Campobello International Park and Fundy Bay. We even found lakes with public access where we could fish and swim (the water in the lakes is A LOT warmer than that in the Atlantic). Of course there was geocaching, which included a number of hikes along the coast line with fantastic views of the ocean and peaceful forests. Of course it took us places we didn’t know about until we got there such as Thuya Gardens in Acadia. And then there was everyone’s favorite hike: Head Harbour Lightstation which can only be reached by walking across the bottom of Head Harbour at low tide off the tip of Campobello Island. We used Home Away to find this and others in NYC and Boston. This one clearly takes the prize for the best value. Based on my limited experience with Home Away and VRBO I think this might be underpriced; but I’m certainly not complaining. If we were to plan another trip to Maine, this would be the place we would book again. This is a great house in a great area.
