We booked this cottage for my birthday getaway this past Memorial Day Weekend. My one complaint is that we didn't have more time to stay in this splendid carriage house and explore this beautiful area. When we first arrived we were stunned by the gorgeous views and the impeccable condition of the house. Pictures do neither justice. The house is spotless and tastefully decorated. The walls are painted a light coastal blue and the decor is perfect for a seaside home. Everything is light, open, and airy. The spacious kitchen is equipped with everything you might need, and the double doors lead to a cute deck with chairs--perfect for drinking your morning coffee while taking in the view. And speaking of the view--it's fabulous.
This home is set just steps from the water. Lobster boats rest quietly on the island dotted bay. Sea birds gather on these islands, calling out to each other. The house faces east, and the sunrises are nothing short of incredible. I woke up early every morning to watch it. I would sit on the new pier and just take it all in. The rising sun cast brilliant shades of pink and orange over the glassy water. The sound of the awakening birds and the scent of the salty sea air was so peaceful. One morning I was lucky enough to see the resident harbor seal. The other activity I enjoyed was kayaking, and this rental actually includes two kayaks at no extra charge. We explored the bay and the islands, paddling by nesting birds and lobster boats. This rental also includes a large grill and a fire pit. The warm fire was perfect to sit by on brisk nights.
Even though it was hard to leave this little paradise, we did venture out. The Schoodic peninsula is just minutes away and is a very pretty drive. The fishing villages of Winter Harbor and Corea are worth a visit while in that area. Corea was by far my favorite. I took many photographs of this traditional fishing village. We also took a trip to Bar Harbor and Acadia National park.
We ate really well while here. Don't miss Friday nights at Chester Pikes. Delicious seafood and the chocolate chip pie is to die for. We also had lobsters from Trenton Bridge Lobster pound--delicious!
And now I would like to talk about our gracious hosts, Bonnie and Mark. They went above and beyond to make our stay memorable. Bonnie even dropped off a jar of homemade blueberry jam and a card for my birthday. You don't encounter kindness like that too often these days. It truly made our trip a memorable one.
