Sometimes just approaching a place you can tell it's going to be great. The bridge over the river from Bath and skirting little coves, inlets and saltwater flats along the way. White herons. Beach grass in the breeze.
When we arrived, there were 4 steps down to the living room and a view that took our breath away. Ocean less than 50 feet away all the way to the horizon. 3 big picture windows and 2 sliders to take it all in with 2 decks. A stone fireplace. 2 leather recliners facing the water. Beamed ceiling, clean, comfortable throughout.
Add the sound of the waves on the rocks below 24/7. Ah, yes the ocean audio. Even when it was cool, we opened the sliders to hear it. Combined with the salt air, can't imagine better sleeping (or napping) environment.
Two bedrooms off the deck, each with their own slider and ocean views. And ocean in two directions. All the way to the horizon. And across a tidal river that reveals a huge and quiet half mile beach at low tide -- which leads to Reid State Park at the far end.
Does it get better than this? Yes.
Classic old Maine dining at Blue. Lobster at 5 Islands. The Maine Maritime Museum in Bath. Popham Beach. Quiet and beauty. There's a lot more, too. All I can say is it goes on and on.
Just like the views.
