Wonderful!

5 of 5
I just returned from a week at Birch Hill, and I loved every second! The cottage is charming, and the kitchen is stocked with everything you could possibly need. The lake is so close, and it is pleasant to sit on the screened in porch and look at the water. My sister-in-law's family came for dinner, and it was fun to entertain in this cottage! The family that owns Birch Hill is so nice to work with, and all of my emails were answered promptly. I have been going to the area each summer for the last five years, and this is my favorite rental, by far!!!!

Lovely House in the Woods

4 of 5
We enjoyed our lovely house in the woods. When we entered, the house was clean and well maintained. We loved the town of Fryeburg as it was centrally located to many attractions such as the Cog Railway and the Flume Gorge in New Hampshire. We were also only an hour and a half away from Portland. I loved the serenity of the location of this house. I do have to say something that was missing in the house was air conditioning. I know Maine doesn't call for air conditioning most of the year, but the house becomes very hot when the temps go up. It was for me a little uncomfortable to sleep in the heat. I also know the owners spray the property for insects. Thank goodness for that because the insect situation was crazy. I guess you can't expect any less being in the woods but it was bothersome. All in all we had a great time in Maine and did enjoy many aspects of the house especially the comfortable tubes provided by the owners. We used them on the river numerous times and had wonderful relaxing days. I would rent this house again only this time I would aim for cooler weather.
