So I have to preface my review with this: if you are arriving after dark, you would not be faulted for thinking you're driving deep into the woods in the middle of nowhere. That was our experience, but I can assure you, that was the wrong impression! This area is delightful, quiet, and yes, it is somewhat in the woods (you are, afterall, heading towards the Wolfe's Neck State Park).
But I can tell you this, Jim and Mary are the best hosts you can ever meet. They are such a delightful couple and so generous and accommodating.
1. Jim stayed up worrying about us because of our late arrival. Even called us to make sure we weren't lost. And because we arrived late, J&M made the futon for our boys ahead of our arrival. J&M treated us like family. We got to sample some home cooking and home-grown garden produce. Delicious.
2. The Loft is beautiful! Pics describes the actual place accurately. Absolutely love the skylights! If you want to sleep in, just pull the shades down. The entire property is also delightful. Loved how quiet it is, but less than 5 minutes drive to all the convenience and shopping you'll ever need. Another 5 minutes drive to the state park, which we spent all day there. We came back one evening to wild turkeys in the driveway! Our boys went nuts over the turkeys.
3. Freeport is more than just shopping. It's not too far from Portland, and not too far from Acadia National Park. Freeport itself is a fun little town to just walkabout.
This place is definitely perfect for a romantic getaway, as well as a great place for a family of four to spend a few days in.
Jim and Mary, thank you for hosting us!
