Great spot for relaxing and touring!

            5 of 5
This house is fully equipped for a wonderful and relaxing family vacation. It is located close enough to local sites like Bar Harbor and Acadia but far enough away to feel remote. The house was clean, fully stocked with enough linens, towels and cookware for our two families of four. The pond was pretty much ours alone the whole time and the kayaks and canoe from the house were in great shape. The house is down a dirt road which wasn't a problem for us because the weather was great. On the drive in there were some odd spots...neighbors with junk in front of their yards, etc. so that was the only weird part about the location. But while one neighbor gave us a warm, friendly greeting on the first day, after that we didn't see anyone really, not even that neighbor, so it really is a quiet and peaceful spot for people who want to "get away from it all". I cannot stress enough how fully-equipped the house was. Board games, a beautiful fireplace (we didn't use it because it was summer), lots of dishes and cookware, coffee pot, microwave, dishwasher, life jackets for adults and kids, a fishing pole, washer/dryer, a fire pit in the yard and chopped wood. Great stay!

Wonderful cabin in an amazing setting

            5 of 5
This was our second time staying at this property and we again had an incredible vacation. This is the perfect place to get away from it all and just enjoy the simple things life can offer. From cooling off in the quarry, to watching the sunset on the wharf and following the lightning bugs back to the cabin - there is plenty to keep you occupied on the property. It is a reasonable drive to the many great attractions of Bar Harbor and Acadia - but also has plenty of amenities and restaurants much closer as well. The cabin itself has everything you'll need for your stay and all linens were clean and stocked upon arrival. Enjoy a night sitting on the front porch and listening to the surroundings - then fall asleep in the sleeping nook to wake up refreshed the next day. The owner, Joasha, is a wonderful individual and will answer any question you may have while you are staying here. Looking forward to returning here again in the future!

            Peaceful Week in Maine

            4 of 5
PROS: This is a charming house--the owner's love of nature and handcraft gives it lots of personality. It had plenty of room for us and our 2 kids. The lakefront setting is beautiful. The lake is clear and clean, and small enough to easily explore in a kayak or canoe (provided by the owner). The resident loons were a big plus! The photos accurately depict the home and its setting. Appliances worked well and were clean (funky washer/dryer location in the basement, but they worked just fine). Another huge plus--Acadia National Park is about 45 minutes from the house, and you can easily reach other coastal destinations via route 1. CONS: The owner did not clean the house between guests, but asked the guests to vacuum. We cleaned the bathrooms ourselves; not sure if anyone cleaned them before we got there. We've never rented a vacation place that was not cleaned before our arrival, and thought that this was an odd arrangement. The house was certainly tidy when we got there, however. The owner provides bicycles, and the road around the lake is pretty. But cars drive fast on that narrow road, and there are no shoulders. So we didn't think it was safe for us and our kids. Too bad--we would have enjoyed a bike ride. There is a rails-to-trails path close by, but you have to bike the narrow roads to get to it, and it is also used by ATVs. TIPS: Do your grocery shopping in Ellsworth before you get to the house--there are no stores in Franklin. There is no cell phone service at the house (unless you go out into the blueberry fields across the street). You may use the house phone for a nominal charge. (If you're there in mid-August, as we were, make sure you get to those blueberry fields and feast!) We ate breakfast at the Riverside Cafe on the main street in Ellsworth a couple of times--delicious and a real nice atmoshere. My 12-year-old son wants me to mention the go-kart track at Wild Acadia Fun Park, on Route 3 heading toward Acadia. There are also several tasty ice cream stands along that stretch. All in all, I would definitely recommend this house for a peaceful family vacation. Just be prepared to do some housecleaning when you get there and when you leave.
