Life changing trip

5 of 5
I really do not no where to begin about our amazing trip to the Dog House in Eastport Maine. We were looking for a getaway for our first trip to Maine. Originally I was looking close to Portland to keep the drive from NJ to limited amount. But when I saw the pictures of the Dog House I figured why not drive to the Eastern most city in the US! There is a sense of calm that will come over you when cross the causeway into Eastport. This little town will make you question is the daily grind rat race really worth it? Eastport has everything you need to make a memorable trip. Walking distance to town, small restaurants, bakeries and sweet tooth's delight - Down East Sweets. At the end of Eastport there is an amazing Lobster Roll place and a IGA market that will take care of your week's grocery needs. Now onto the house - This place is amazing. I have visited almost 30 countries in my lifetime and the view from the Dog House Deck beats anything I have seen before. We spent many morning, days and evenings just staring at the view. We were able to see a whale breaking the surface and bald eagles feeding on the rocky outcroppings. Everything is new and clean and so cozy you may try an offer Lisa your worldly possessions to make a permanent stay. For those chilly cozy nights there is a gas fireplace that really sets the mood. Also provided is internet access and an apple TV to review your daily adventure photos. A full service kitchen, Two bathrooms beautifully appointed. I guarantee by the end of the week you will still be finding new little treasures that Lisa used to decorate the house. Eastport is close to everything in the area and we made many trips into Canada. Be sure to bring your passport, it is necessary for all border crossings. If you love lighthouses like we do Maine is mecca. We were able to see 8 in our week long trip. Be sure to check our Campobello island. Lisa has flyers and local info neatly organized and ready for your reading pleasure right in the house. So don't not hesitate to book you will be amazed, but shhhh lets keep this Eastport Secret quiet ;)

reflective, restorative time

5 of 5
As I sit here, looking out over Shackford Cove from the cottage, I am reminded again what an idyllic place this is for recouping and restoring oneself. It is truly a place apart. Just a few minutes ago, we watched a minke whale breach over and over just outside the cove where there must be ample feeding due to the tremendous tidal action. There aren't a lot of places you can whale-watch from your deck, but here it is common. Tourists say "Look! It's a whale!" Locals say "Yawp, that's Ted." The mackerel fishing here is also amazing, just on the breakwater at the edge of town. The owners, Jim and Colleen, although not locals by birth, can tell you where to go for good food, souvenirs, scenery and activities, much of it only a block or two away. Hike through Shackford Head park, take the ferry to Campobello and see FDR's summer cottage, take the passenger ferry to Lubec for lunch and more local art, perhaps seeing more whales, seals and porpoises along the way. Mostly, just relax in the peaceful atmosphere that is Eastport and the authentic downeast feel of the Cottage.

Lovely small apartment! Dog friendly!

5 of 5
First off, Eastport is fantastic. With plenty of places to eat and drink, and dozens of amazing day trips, this is a really fun, low-key town. We loved it. The apartment is a terrific little place. This is ideal for a couple, but you could have a small family, if you don't mind making up the futon each day. It is in a great location; you can walk to town (15 minutes) or bike easily. We brought our dog, and the quiet neighborhood was great for her. Just be careful; Eastport has invasive red ants that bite! The place was clean and everything was new; the kitchen was well-outfitted with everything we needed. The deck is wonderful! We sat out and listened to the fog horns each night. I hope to go back.
