Perfect Getaway

5 of 5
While looking for a quality but reasonably affordable stay for a family vacation, we came across this property. It was such a pleasure to arrive and find the home FAR BETTER than we could have imagined! It is a very beautiful, large home with ample space and comfortable furnishings throughout and very clean. The home is immaculate and all rooms were lovely, and so many w/ huge TVs. The owners have definitely gone to a lot of effort to make the home work well for a variety of groups. There was even a grill in a large front deck. And speaking of the owner, Dale & Rae were a pleasure to work with and willingly accommodated our group; they were extremely sweet and very helpful. They are REAL Mainers and it was a real pleasure chatting with them and learning about the area. The home itself is on a gorgeous pond with a wonderful view and a private beach that I call heaven for kids. For sure it is a home that is well suited for a getaway vacation. We just had a blast, and the home was a big part of letting our family be together and share a very special time. Lastly, I don't think you can beat the price. It's more than a fair deal. Thanks Dale & Rae for the wonderful week! PS: don't let the GPS take you on 200 South from 182 (Franklin Rd)..take 200 N..the roads get real bad if you go south.

A quiet family vacation with the loons

5 of 5
What a lovely spot. In our opinion, this house had the choice spot on the pond, which was so quiet and peaceful at all times during our stay. (In other words, we did not see or hear one power boat or jet ski during our stay.) We are a family with three teens, so the kayaks were abundantly used by all. We especially enjoyed communing with the loons, who let us kayak (quietly) fairly close to them without concern. With our loon visits, our early morning kayak trips on glassy waters were the highlight, for sure. Bald eagle sightings were icing on the cake...and, yes, we were fortunate enough to see a double rainbow on our first day. One note to those with very young children: the pond has a very gradual beach, so this would really be a perfect spot for children who want to putter around and splash in the water. A trip into Ellsworth is very doable, as is some hiking or exploring in Acadia. We particularly enjoyed Schoodic Peninsula. We ate at home most nights, but Finn's Pub is a great stop for dinner, as is the Riverside Cafe for breakfast (both in Ellsworth). We did have a couple of rainy days (very stormy, in fact). We never lost power (disappointing our daughter greatly), and the books, games, puzzles and DVDs got us through very nicely (Chinese checkers and Pachisi (Parcheesi), anyone?). The house itself is very spacious and comfortable with a beautiful view of the pond. Highly recommended all around.

Refunded without a problem

5 of 5
My husband and I were really looking forward to staying at this cottage. Unfortunately about 7 or 8 weeks before the vacation my husband was in a serious car accident and we were forced to cancel. Mitch was very understanding and issued us a full refund. We are looking forward to re-booking our vacation with him.
