Rustic cottage at the waters edge

5 of 5
Our family has returned to this cottage 5 times in the last 6 years in what has become a family tradition. The cabin evokes an earlier age with panoramic views of the present day world passing by. The location is great being just far enough up the Damariscotta River to have the wildlife and lobster boat action of the ocean with calmer water that allows for wading and boating at all times. Over the years we have seen osprey, seals and dolphins and the kids have caught and recaught a school of mackerel off the dock. With its cove and small font yard (also with a full view of the water) it is ideal for children. Set at the end of a curving dirt lane, at the end of a long country road, on the backside of a hill, the cabin is secluded on the land side in sharp contrast to its openness toward the water. On arrival you leave the highway world behind and find your day measured by the rhythm of the tides. In the evenings the setting sun puts on a show across the water. The Pemaquid Peninsula is also great with many nearby sites and activities. Less touristed that other Maine locations, the town of South Bristol is very picturesque and also has the air of an earlier time. I would recommend this rental to anyone looking for a particularly Maine experience!

Beautiful location, charming log cabin

4 of 5
This property was excellent. The owner has done a great job in renovating a classic log cabin home. Waterfront and boats and amazing vistas in every direction. We enjoyed the area attractions and especially the ride on Andrew's incredible boat! The pastries from the General Store as well as the sandwiches were great to start the day of seeing the central coast.

Rustic, Quiet and a Vanishing/Unique Property

5 of 5
After 10 days, I can say what I said the day we arrived, "This is just what we wanted." On calm water, quiet and unseen neighbors, modern conveniences (there is a wall heater in the bathroom to take off the morning chill), and a very comfortable bed. You are close enough to "civilization" that you can visit the Botanical Gardens and ride a vintage steam train in Alna. There is also a lovely farmers' market on Thursdays. I am home now and can't find my husband. Is he still there? Reading in the hammock?
