Recent Downeast and Acadia Reviews

Yup. We loved it!

5 of 5
My husband and I visited Eastport Maine from 5/9 – 5/16. We flew into Bangor, stopped at the local IGA to load up on a few essentials and then settled into Lisa’s charming Dog House. The house is great as noted in the previous reviews and Lisa is equally as wonderful. We spoke with her on the phone and had several email exchanges prior to our visit so we were completely prepared on what to bring, do and expect. Because we were traveling off season Lisa wanted us to know that some of the restaurants and tourist attractions would not be open. Looking for peace and quiet, we were fine with that. The town of Eastport is a small, pleasant, historical fishing village consisting entirely of islands - some of which you can see right from the deck of the Dog house. We enjoyed strolling around town, often stopping in the local restaurants for lunch or an early dinner. (a note here, most close early.) Quoddy Bay Lobster does indeed have wonderful Lobster Rolls but their Scallop Roll is even better. Both are a bit pricey ($21.95 I think) but worth it. It you’re looking to save a few bucks get the Seafood Roll and Seafood Chowder at Waco Diner (they close at 2:00). Served as a combo with coleslaw for just $8.95, all were surprisingly yummy! Nor do you want to miss the Wickedly Delicious Fish Chowder at Localz Tavern or the cocktails poured nice and stiff by Kim at the Happy Crab. Finally Lisa’s Sweeties Downeast is just so S-W-E-E-T! Yummy candies of all kinds with the chocolate covered blueberries being my favorite. We brought goodies purchased there for our friends at home. By far though, our favorite dinner was a flank steak purchased at the local IGA and grilled on the deck of the Dog House as we enjoyed the awesome Bay view. We took a couple of day trips - one to Bar Harbor (nice!) and one to Campobello. But mostly we enjoyed sitting on the deck of The Dog House looking at the beautiful view. The Dog House is indeed a lovely cottage with any and everything you could possibly need for a relaxing vacation - the bed is super comfy! (another note, the stairs to the bedroom are steep so traversing them may be difficult for some folks). As noted in other reviews, the people across the street do play music much of the time. It is pretty mellow though, played at a fairly low volume and probably won’t bother you unless you are a very light sleeper. We plan to return to The Dog House/Eastport so that we can enjoy any and everything that we may have missed.

Charming Grandma's House

5 of 5
We had a wonderful stay at the Farmhouse. The homeowner, Roger, was accommodating, helpful and welcoming. Yes, it is an older home with all it's little quirks (smile), but it was quite comfortable for our needs. We were able to bring our dog--not all rentals are so pet friendly. It was an easy walk to the village and grocery; the neighbors were friendly and even took my husband out hauling traps one day. What more could you want??? Well, wifi would be nice...... But the library is nearby and has that.

Warm and inviting

5 of 5
My family which includes 3 children ages 13, 11 and 7, traveled to Maine for the first time. This home was more than we could have hoped for. It is very clean and well cared for. The craftsmanship that went into creating this home is unbelievable. We were wowed at every turn. There was plenty of room for all of us and had all of the comforts of home. My children especially loved building fires in the fire ring outside our door each night to roast marshmallows and make s'mores. We drove into Bar Harbor and went on the Lulu Lobster boat which we all enjoyed. We also spent a couple of days hiking around the Schoodic Peninsula and Mount Desert Island making sure to have popovers at Jordan Pond. This was a truely memorable vacation and we are already trying to figure out when we can get back there!!!
