We splurged a bit, renting Lighthouse Point Estate for a week to celebrate our 40th anniversary. This was a beautiful place to watch boats and sunsets. The views from the deck, the lighthouse catwalk, and down on the rocks were amazing. Some deck furniture on the back deck would have been nice. There was a very rustic table, but no chairs to use. We carried some out and back in. We made do…
So, would we do it again? Yes, but there are some things that you’d be better off knowing before you decide to rent based on the description of the property.
We were excited about the fireplaces. Living in Florida, we rarely get to enjoy a fire. The description lists 3 fireplaces, but when we got there we found that the one in the eat-in kitchen and the one in the bedroom were not to be used; a disappointment.
Our first night there, we provisioned to have surf and turf, but could not get the gas grill to work. Don’t know what the problem was but I have been using a gas grill for many, many years, so it wasn’t an obvious problem.
The description listed extensive workout equipment, and our plans included a cardio workout every day. There was no treadmill, and the elliptical was out of order. Another disappointment. (If you lift weights, you will NOT be disappointed). We made do with some lovely walks.
The kitchen is listed as a gourmet kitchen. Sorta. If I owned the home it certainly would be. The bones are there, but our first disappointment was a sign on the flattop/broiler saying, “Do not use”. It really wasn’t in any shape to use anyway. My last home had a commercial stove and I was looking forward to some blueberry pancakes on the flattop. The other thing I found lacking were the pots and pans. And the knives were far from adequate.
On the other hand, their policy regarding the use of things in the kitchen was refreshing. “Use what you want”. It was well stocked with the basics. We stopped for things like basics and paper products before we got there – wasn’t needed. All of the basics you’d need are there.
We got past these things and had a wonderful time, but it would have been perfect if we hadn’t spent the first day or two walking around finding the things we’d planned on taking advantage of that weren’t allowed or didn’t work.
And let me finish with some highlights. Sunsets from the lighthouse catwalk were aw
