FABULOUS!

5 of 5
This place is just wonderful. Right on a little cove; you can walk down at all times of the day and see marine life, look for shells, watch the boats. the decor in the house is exquisite, light and airy. beds are comfy, porches are great. totally clean, even a little pot of flowers. i also loved how there were some staples in the pantry; it's always a shame to have to buy or throw out salt or sugar at a rental. deer isle is beautiful and relaxing. it was just a wonderful experience; we really enjoyed our time there. the only negative for me was that the owners use a rental agency with a draconian cancellation policy: if you cancel, you pay the full amount anyway. We rented at the last minute so it wasn't an issue, but i would really hesitate to reserve this place ahead of time in case something happened.

PERFECT FOR OUR FAMILY VACATION

5 of 5
We recently returned from a wonderful week at the Woodberry Cottage in Deer Isle. My wife had been planning for more than two years an event that would bring our entire, immediate family together under one roof: sons, spouses and granddaughters. All told we were ten. Based solely on the rental agency's description and the recommendation of a friend, my wife rented the Woodberry Cottage sight unseen for a week in August. What a perfect choice it turned out to be! The cottage was all that was advertised plus furnishings and amenities that we hadn't expected. Matched silverware and enough place settings for twice our number. We found every kitchen utensil imaginable, satellite-based Wi-Fi, an extensive DVD and VHS collection, foosball, air hockey and more. We enjoyed time in the adirondack chairs overlooking the ocean and found our way down to the rocky shore during both low tide (tons of starfish) and high tide (swim time). We bought lobsters from the Fishermen's Cooperative in Stonington and steamed them over fresh-picked seaweed in the propane cooker generously provided by our hosts. We launched our kayaks from a public landing just ten minutes from the cottage as well as from the park off Sandy Beach Road in Stonington. Some of us visited galleries while others enjoyed hiking on trails provided by the Island Heritage Trust. The grandparents even got away for a lobster dinner on their own at the Friendly Fisherman Restaurant. All of our expectations for the Woodberry Cottage and the family vacation, as high as they were, were exceeded.

DEER ISLE AND DOW ROAD WATERFRONT COTTAGE

5 of 5
We have rented Stan's cabin for 2 years in a row. It is on the water and the paddling is great. Also good area for biking. The island is beautiful and locals are very used to tourists but not over them/us, and are quite friendly. Not a remote and rustic get-a-way, more of an "urban influences meet New England coast rural sensibilities". This is our entry in Stan's guest log, and speaks best to our experiences at DRWC: Another glorious week in your wonderful cottage! This, our second stay, felt like coming home. We spent less time going out and exploring the island, and more time just hanging out together here. That said, we did make it to Haystack for the studio walk-throughs, where we also happened to watch a pod of dolphins slowly making their way across Western Cove. Visited the local galleries, ate at the Whale's Rib, bought zucchini bread across the street - all by foot, which we love. Also went into Stonington by way of the farmer's market. Thank you Stan for your attentiveness and your relaxed wit. And thank you for welcoming us into this wonderful little haven.
