Amazing!

5 of 5
I can't say enough good things about our stay on Spruce Island. I went with a group of 14 friends. Our main goal was to "get off the grid". Well we found the right place! The island itself is a short ride from the harbor. Just short enough to not be a pain but long enough to get away from it all. There was so much to do on the island... beaches, trails, exploring, ping pong, drive golf balls into the ocean, and more. The houses had every amenity you could wish for. We were more than comfortable while being on a remote Maine island. Couldn't have asked for more. We had 3 clear nights when the moon went down early and the stars came out in full force. Sitting up in the crows nest while looking up at a sky full of bright stars is quite the experience. Colie and Jeff couldn't have been more accommodating and helpful. Can't wait to come back next year!

what a dream

5 of 5
We had no idea what to expect when we arrived at the brown house, but this place is a dream! Overlooking the water, watching the tide roll in and out, waking up every morning to the hustle and bustle of the lobster boats, the sound of a light house in the distance! it was straight out of a perfect novel. Our 2 pups enjoyed it as much as we did, they loved sitting on the deck and watching the boats and the birds go by. The people of Stonington are some of the the friendliest people we have ever met, and the culture they have and love of their community is wonderful. Once your there you don't need a car! there are the most amazing handmade lobster rolls right out the door at the ice cream stand, a straight from the lobster boats restaurant next door, many art galleries, a market once a week and many beautiful places to walk to, like the lilly pond and a tucked away little beach! With Acadia National Park being only an hour away we ventured there twice on our vacation, on our second trip there on top of North Bubble Rock WE GOT ENGAGED! it was without a doubt the perfect place to start a new chapter in our lives!

Wake to the Lobster Boats

4 of 5
This small 1 BR cottage was very comfortable for my husband and me. We spent most of our time outside and watched the lobster boats, schooners, and blue herons. The kitchen was small but adequate. We had plenty of hot water and the cottage was clean. The area is tidal and is completely dry at low tide. The is no dock, but we drove 5 minutes to launch our kayak. The kayaking is wonderful! We walked 5-10 minutes to town to a convenient store, the Opera House to see a movie and restaurants, and drove10 minutes drive to grocery store. There are many more positives to the cottage and we enjoyed our stay. But we want to note: -There is a float tied to the seawall in front of the cottage loaded with bags of trash/recycle items??? We could not see it from the house, but from outside it is visible. Not sure what this is about. -Outdoor furniture is uncomfortable, needs improvement. -The lawn was not mowed and our shoes were continuously wet after walking down the hill to the cottage and spending time outdoors. -The big house and cottage were for sale at this time We recommend this cottage if the above meets your needs. We hope is doesn't sell too quickly!
