First, the photos on homeaway do an injustice to the property. It is far lovelier than you'd expect based on these pictures. My husband and I spent two wonderful weeks in this very comfortable and attractive cottage. Our daughter joined us for several days. We loved picking up steamed lobsters from the nearby co-op and feasting on them "at home" with fresh-picked lettuce and tomatoes from Lisa's bountiful vegetable garden. [We had permission to help ourselves!] We watched the lobster boats pick up their catch right in front of the cottage, as we luxuriated on the three comfy sofas in the living room. The master bedroom was large and light with pleasant views, and the two smaller twin rooms were in earshot of the waves lapping the beach below. The house is well-equipped and designed, the kitchen more than adequate and the dock would be lovely in warmer weather - especially if one had a boat. The weather was near-perfect, a bit chilly some mornings in early September. We enjoyed a trip to the Maine Coastal Botanic Gardens, a day on Monhegan Island, a visit to the Farnsworth Art Museum in Rockland (lobster club at Copper Compass!), and a trip to Pemaquid Point and Fort William Henry - with lunch at Anchor Inn. Meals at nearby Coveside were very good - especially the hallibut special one stormy night. But our dinners were more often from the lobster co-op or Osier's in South Bristol. Our favorite shop in the area was the Walpole Barn - handsome gifts, an excellent gourmet selection, and Pemaquid oysters! Hannaford's was our go-to grocery in Damariscotta. The Maine Coast book store there is excellent as is Weatherford's (kitchen things, wine and gourmet items) behind the bookstore. We enjoyed lunches in Damariscotta at the River Grill, King Eider's, and the New Castle Publick House. The cottage is in a perfect location to enjoy area attractions. It should be mentioned that despite it being able to sleep 6, the limited hot water supply would be a problem with more that 3-4 people there. But the three of us loved our stay at this very charming Maine cottage almost on top of the ocean.
