A wonderful house in a peaceful area

5 of 5
We are the first guests of the new honeymoon cottage. The house is perfect, every details have been thought by the very smart and kind owner. The service is simply perfect. If you love nature and history get to Castine and enjoy the woods by the house. They are full of turkeys. The little town is pretty and worth the trip. We went to Acadia national park. It is not that far. The nature is beautiful over there. Many enjoyable hikes are available and if you don't want to meet the crowd you can go out of Bay Harbor in other little harbors. Maine is a very nice place to stay. We'll come back again.

Ideal cottage for our July visit.

5 of 5
We spent over 2 weeks in this lovely, craftsman style cottage. Easy walk to town dock, town green and other venues in the village of Castine. Lots of windows which allowed the predominately southwest breeze to blow through the house and kept us very comfortable. Although the house has two bedrooms and a bath upstairs, we were very comfortable using the first floor bedroom and bath during our stay. A love seat and bench on the enclosed front porch with windows was a pleasant place to sit and read during the day.

Sleepy Hollow

5 of 5
"Ahhhhhhh, finally". Those were my first words- I am not kidding. We are two stressed Boston junior executives with two Tazmanian devils for children. We needed North and we needed it NOW! Downeast Maine had been on our bucket list forever!! Emilia was a delight, we got lucky someone had cancelled last minute and we were IN. The cottage was perfect: Funky, lots of character, comfy, and great sunlight...! It was situated on a hill and abutted a wilderness preserve- ideal for morning hikes or sunset strolls with chilled glass o wine!! Big yard bonus for the brats. The bedrooms were neat, clean, devoid of silly coastal posters. Bathrooms tidy, no frills. The kitchen was well prepared, dining table gorgeous rustic, great for large dinner party.. Wrap around screened in porch proved helpful on rainy day- likewise ping-pong table in garage. (Proving: There is a God.) Castine is a great town (we soon discovered) but it can be busy in July, Fortunately Emilia's cottage is on the quiet side of town, on a forgotten lane, really quiet! Except for the cacophony of sound that is the birdsong in the early morning. Sometimes too early. Yes, nature at last, yet minutes (walking) to in-town and all the services you'd ever want: groceries, fuel, beer, baked goods, (Bah's Bakehouse is a MUST every day), restaurants,(Stella's or Pentagoet Inn will impress) etc. And head the other direction for beaches and lighthouse! Run don't Walk, to book this place. It is a lovely, simple get away for those on a tight budget and stressed out from work it will be the best money spent if retreat and relax is in order. (BTW: we discovered besides being a gracious hostess Emilia is an accomplished singer songwriter too! Her husband a famous expedition sea- kayaker!!). .
