Value and charm

5 of 5
My husband and I stayed at Camden Cottage (the one-bedroom Bentley cottage) for a week in mid-July. We have rented “self-catered” homes and apartments in Paris, London, and up and down the East Coast and this experience was among the best. The cottage is on the south side of Camden, a pleasant 10-minute walk to the town, and a 10-minute walk in the other direction to Leyte Memorial Beach. It is surrounded by beautiful homes built in the 1800’s, most of which are exquisitely maintained and landscaped. The cottage is old and small, and slopes noticeably toward one corner, but I have never seen a rental that was more thoughtfully equipped. The pretty bedroom is large and well furnished with a comfortable queen bed, good linens, a variety of pillows, good storage and plenty of good-quality hangers in the closet. The bathroom is small (the shower enclosure particularly so), but brightly painted with plenty of plush towels and a hand-held shower that is comfortable for short and tall guests. The living room with flat screen Dish TV and a café table for indoor dining is serviceable. The kitchen lacks a dishwasher (there are only two of you after all) but it is equipped with plenty of pots, pans, tableware, and more gadgets than my kitchen at home -- right down to kitchen matches, scissors and tape. The owners are truly hospitable. I didn’t read the listing carefully and thought there would be a washer and dryer on the property. Since we had already been traveling for a week, we were desperate for laundry facilities. Although there is a very nice laundromat within a mile, they insisted I use the laundry in the main house. They have done everything they could think of to make a stay in the Bentley Cottage comfortable and are right next-door if you need anything.

Old Town Charm

5 of 5
I second the review by Robin G. (I was her traveling partner on this vacation). The cozy apartment was well appointed, clean and convenient to all of the wonderful town of Camden. The short walk to town made the stay even more enjoyable. Our two favorite 'spots' were FRESH and 40 PAPER - great food and fun bar. I hope to be back for a repeat visit. Thank you for your prompt replies when we had a question or two. Jane

Cozy, convenient, and pristine cottage!

5 of 5
Truly, this cottage exceeded our expectations! The owners were meticulous in providing clean, welcoming, and well-appointed lodging. The furnishings were lovely -- understated and not "fussy" -- very tasteful. The layout was very comfortable. We especially enjoyed the quiet surroundings, and yet it was very close to shops, restaurants, and harbor activities. The owner provided a helpful notebook of things to do in the area, and we definitely took advantage of the many scenic opportunities which Camden/Rockport/Rockland have to offer. The kitchen contained all we would need, and was very clean and up to date. Everything from Scrabble, to interesting books, to beach chairs and towels...they thought of everything! I would recommend this cottage to a couple or an individual looking for charming and convenient lodging in the beautiful town of Camden. Some of our favorite activities included Lincolnville Beach (with great lobster rolls at McLaughlins), a day trip to Acadia, the Farnsworth Museum, Captain Jack's Lobster Adventure Cruise, the library's Friday historical walking tour, breakfasts at Boynton - McKay, the Windsor Chair Workshop, visits to a number of area lighthouses, and much more. What a great week we had in Camden at the Marigold Cottage!
