My husband and I stayed at Camden Cottage (the one-bedroom Bentley cottage) for a week in mid-July. We have rented “self-catered” homes and apartments in Paris, London, and up and down the East Coast and this experience was among the best.
The cottage is on the south side of Camden, a pleasant 10-minute walk to the town, and a 10-minute walk in the other direction to Leyte Memorial Beach. It is surrounded by beautiful homes built in the 1800’s, most of which are exquisitely maintained and landscaped.
The cottage is old and small, and slopes noticeably toward one corner, but I have never seen a rental that was more thoughtfully equipped. The pretty bedroom is large and well furnished with a comfortable queen bed, good linens, a variety of pillows, good storage and plenty of good-quality hangers in the closet. The bathroom is small (the shower enclosure particularly so), but brightly painted with plenty of plush towels and a hand-held shower that is comfortable for short and tall guests. The living room with flat screen Dish TV and a café table for indoor dining is serviceable. The kitchen lacks a dishwasher (there are only two of you after all) but it is equipped with plenty of pots, pans, tableware, and more gadgets than my kitchen at home -- right down to kitchen matches, scissors and tape.
The owners are truly hospitable. I didn’t read the listing carefully and thought there would be a washer and dryer on the property. Since we had already been traveling for a week, we were desperate for laundry facilities. Although there is a very nice laundromat within a mile, they insisted I use the laundry in the main house. They have done everything they could think of to make a stay in the Bentley Cottage comfortable and are right next-door if you need anything.
