HERE IS A REALLY "GREEN" MOTEL.

5 of 5
This is a home away from home. Great location where you can watch the sunrise over the bay from the deck or living room on the top floor. The location is so convenient, just minutes to many attractions north and south. Always clean and well cared for, we have stayed here many times, never disappointed. We always receive a warm welcome for owners Eric and Jenny and their service is first class. We have recommended the Birchwood to family and friends. So many things to do and see in the area, museums, antique shops, natural wonders, the bay and sailing ships, Owls Head Museum and Capt. Jim Sharp's Museum, and restaurants galore. Make the Birchwood your headquarters for a great vacation.

A HOME AWAY FROM HOME

5 of 5
We (myself recently retired, my wife, and an 80-year old friend) found the Apt at Ferncliff to be better than advertised. The kitchen was surprisingly well stocked, not only with utensils but also with foodstuffs (spices, condiments, peanut butter, etc.) such that we did not use many of the items we had brought with us based on our stays elsewhere. The apartment was comfortable and well furnished - we lacked for nothing. Denise and Andy made us feel very welcome and were most helpful throughout the week with recommendations for restaurants, stores, and activities. Their very friendly Shepard mix "Yuko" had adopted us as members of the family by the second day. They offered, mid week, to do any laundry we might want washed and offered the use of the washer/dryer any time we needed it. The focus of our week in Camden was to do some sea kayaking in the mid-coast Maine area and the Apt at Ferncliff was ideally situated for that. We could be at the Camden boat launch in 5 minutes, and in Rockland or Lincolnville launch ramps in perhaps 15 minutes. Despite being so conveniently located, it is in a very secluded heavily forested site on a gravel lane that affords a lot of privacy. The second bedroom (with a twin and a double bed) is upstairs and the full bath and the half bath are on the first floor. The full bath is integral with the first floor bedroom and the half bath best services the upstairs bedroom. The flight of stairs was not equipped with a handrail and while this was not a problem for our 80-year old friend as he stayed only one night (he spent the rest of the week sailing on one of Camden's windjammers), had he been there the full week the absence of a handrail might have been a concern during night time visits to the bathroom. I mentioned this to Andy and he said he would consider adding one. All in all it was a wonderful week and we were very glad we had chosen Ferncliff from among the choices available. We would definitely stay there again and would recommend it to others considering staying in the Camden area.

NO WAY TO DO BETTER!

5 of 5
We are 65 yo couple who have really fallen for the relaxed Maine lifestyle.I am a retired physician and we raised 3 sons and enjoyed every hectic moment. But now we enjoy tranquility, simplicity, and nice down to earth people. This was ou third trip to Camden & there is NO WAY U CAN DO BETTER.Esp if you fall in our category. Jonie manages the property while raising her family and is delightful. All you want or need is easily walkable. And being mid-coastal you can do day trips north or south.Food is so good/plentiful that you soon develop favorites. But plan to spend time in the great room, doors open and enjoy the harbor. Many a movie has used the Camden Harbor for good reason. Enjoy your stay and RELAX!
