A Maine Classic

5 of 5
We have rented 10 different cabins in recent years in Mid-Coast Maine, and this one is the classiest and coziest. It's what you've probably dreamed a cabin in Maine ought to look like. It's only 2 miles from Boothbay Harbor, 2.5 from a large supermarket, but it's tucked away on a quiet cul-de-sac and a world away. It's surrounded by trees, yet has a terrific view to the ocean, with wind and waves the only sounds. It's 20 yards down a stone-stepped path, and another 20 yards down to the dock from the cabin. The cabin comes with a canoe you can use on Appalachee Pond, a block's distance away. The pond has a great beach for kids and is very pretty to canoe around, but you'll cover the whole thing in half an hour. The owners allowed us to bring the canoe to tidewater as we are very avid canoers, and we had many great paddles around Linekin Bay, which is about 3 miles long and half that wide, with several islands to paddle around. Each day we were passed by busy lobster boats pulling their traps and circled above by osprey. There is a floating dock you can leave the canoe on overnight. You can access the water at any tide, unlike other places we've stayed at where the dock is high and dry at low tide. The bedrooms are not large, but adequate. The main bedroom has a queen bed, the other two a twin bed each, and there are two bathrooms, each one between the main bedroom and one of the single rooms. One of the single rooms is on the ocean side, with nice views to the water and waves on the shore lulling you to sleep. The kitchen was well-equipped. The dining table was well-lit and large. The living room is the real treasure here: large and almost glowing from the log walls, log beams, and shiny wooden floor with colorful rugs about. There is a large plush sofa and easy chairs, also well-lit, and in a corner another table where we could spread out maps or do a jigsaw puzzle, had we ever found the time. Finally, there is a porch on the water side where you can spend many pleasant hours reading and listening to the waves. Boothbay Harbor and area attractions are nearby. If you enjoy hiking, the Boothbay Region Land Trust owns and maintains many nature preserves nearby, including one right next to Appalachee Pond. They have downloadable trail maps on their website. The owners live right across the road and are very helpful. Between them and the beauty of the cabin and the area, it was very hard to leave. We’re already making plans to return.

Best Vacation Ever!!!

5 of 5
Our group of 7 gathered from around the country at The Dock House at Boothbay Harbor, Saturday, September 6th, 2014. We started laughing together that minute and never stopped till the week was over. The weather was fall perfect! The house could not have been better for a week in Maine. On the water, with a marvelous deck where we all spent a lot of time telling stories, reading and down right relaxing! The house layout and amenities were just right. Comfortable beds, nice towels and linens, washer/dryer, well equipped kitchen (although we opted to rely more on the great Harbor restaurants for meals). One of the highlights of our stay was a New England Lobster Bake, done at the house on the rocks, and served on the deck, with all the trimmings by the Rapid Radish Company. WOW! From walks to town, the numerous lobster rolls, harbor tour, visit to the lobster houses where the boats come in, the botanical garden and more. The owners were great to work with, too! As we said when we left, "BEST VACATION EVER!"

Perfect in Every Way!

5 of 5
The Moorings is the perfect vacation spot! It is a lovely, Maine house with charm and an amazing location right on the water. We spent a week at this house for a family reunion (there were 16 of us!) and absolutely fell in love. There was space for all of us, a kitchen that had more pots, pans, dishes, and glasses than most summer camps and a view from the porch that was worth every penny. We brought our kayaks and paddleboards and tied them at the private dock. Since the Moorings is on a bay, we could boat and swim in the calm waters every day. It was heavenly. The cute, small residential area of Bayville had tennis and indoor ping pong and everyone we met was friendly and kind. By the end of the trip, we were all scheming how we could own such a property on the coast of Maine. This house is a gem. We are so thankful to have found it for this week and we can't wait to return!
