ENCHANTING PLACE

5 of 5
We've stayed in many interesting and delightful VRBOs in Europe (Paris, Florence, and Valencia) and in the U.S. (from Tucson to Cambridge, MA), and Arden House is one of our favorites, and certainly the most luxurious and gorgeously furnished. Set on a spectacular, private, wooded, tidal bay 3 acre lot, the house, with its many windows, made us feel as though we were truly in the Maine woods. Each room in the house is beautifully decorated with fabulous art and antiques and comfortable furniture. All the rooms are spacious and beautifully laid out, and there are lots of private spaces for reading or conversations. The kitchen is large with space for several cooks, and equipped with large appliances and all the cooking tools, dishes, glasses, etc., someone who loves to cook would ever want. The living rooms and the screened porches are both large and cozy, the bedrooms are spacious with comfortable beds, and the bathrooms are thoughtfully and beautifully set up. Each of these rooms has its own striking design. The house was spotlessly clean when we arrived, The caretaker, who let us in, was helpful getting us oriented, and patient with a couple of small things we couldn't figure out. He was also knowledgeable and entertaining. Abigail, who took our reservations, was lovely --warm, helpful, and efficient. We liked that Boothbay Harbor is only a few minutes away for groceries and restaurants, and we enjoyed tide pooling on the shores nearby. The Carriage House Apartment is adjacent, but that space is separated and oriented in such a way that we barely knew someone was there. In our last couple of days, we met the woman who owns and designed Arden House. She was so hospitable, friendly, and knowledgeable; having the opportunity to talk with her made our stay even better. In all, we spent a wonderful week at Arden House. We went home refreshed and contented, with great memories of our stay in Maine. We hope to return to Arden House soon!

PEACEFUL GET AWAY

5 of 5
My husband is a teacher in Cape Elizabeth and had school vacation late Arpil. I had heard about this great home close to Booth Bay Harbor and we decided to make the quick hour trip up from Portland. We arrived late afternoon. The home immediately felt comfortable and peaceful. Everything was so clean and decorated so nicely. The house offered a huge dining room table in a sun soaked room, a sitting room next to the open kitchen so you could relax and talk while the chef made dinner, a master bed and bath, and a beautiful living room with large windows looking into the woods and back deck. Both mornings we sat on the deck and drank our coffee and read. The house is a short walk down to a private lake that we sat at and listened to the nature in the afternoons. One late afternoon we went into town-we didn't want to leave the house!-it was a short 3 minute drive to all the stores and restaurants. Susan was so helpful and nice and provided many ideas of things to do there. We went to the land trust and hiked and the botanical gardens. But there was a huge binder of many more attractions Susan had put together. She made us feel so at home and that we could call her with any questions. Ocean View drive in East Bookthbay is a must. Great place for a family or a couple and friends to stay. We can't wait to go back! Thank you Susan and Chip!!

THE PERFECT MAINE RETREAT!

5 of 5
Hi Melissa, We wanted to write and tell you that we enjoyed our second stay at your Bold Colorful Life estate immensely. We hope to return again and again. Last time, we loved the Farmhouse…the spacious, comfortable rooms, the wonderful 200 year old barn timbers in the Great room and the amazing view of the river. Everything was even better than the website pictures promised. Our daughter wanted to repaint our whole house in brighter colors after seeing what you did with your Inn! We enjoyed doing our crafts and having meals around that huge table….more than enough room for our 11 person group. The breezes off the river and all the paddle fans cooled the summer sun and the eagles and blue heron were a delight. The kitchen was so well equipped…there wasn’t a recipe we couldn’t create...and we made quite a feast. Thanks for giving us the tour and for answering our questions and needs along the way…it was good to have you nearby when we wanted you. This time, it was the historic Cape, for our smaller group. Again, the colorful and whimsical rooms were SO comfortable and we got caught up on sleep…so important for our vacation. Our daughter brought a friend this time and they loved the cozy bunks and their own private bath. We love your wildflowers and the emerald green lawns between them, and we love all the stone benches and hammocks, in perfect spots for resting. We didn’t see the eagles, but loved the bullfrogs and the last of the tree frogs around the pond. Thanks again for giving us the perfect spot to gather with family members, catch up with each other and with rest, enjoy the beauty of waterfront Maine and of the Boothbay peninsula. We recommend the gardens, lighthouse tours, nearby hikes and downtown waterfront restaurants to your other guests. See you next year! Annie T
