Wonderful Time!

5 of 5
The cottage is very unique and comfortable, located right on the water and you cannot beat the private dock. Take the owners's canoe out and explore the river right from the house. The view from the balcony is marvelous and you get to watch tides come in and go all day long from your living room. The owners are very welcoming and will help you to figure out the area. There are many places to go and see or just relax on a beach. Be sure to take the Lobster Tour with the Lobstah Haul. We had a wonderful time in the area!!

Fantastic

5 of 5
Last August, my husband, small dog and I came to the cabin for two wonderful weeks. The cabin is spacious, very clean and comfortable. The well equiped kitchen had all we needed to make our meals which we ate at a table over looking the river. The living room is large with lots of table space for our books, guides and maps. The bed is very comfortable with a skylight over head and a bathroom just through the door. There is a wonderful deck also looking over the river which we spent hours on reading and viewing birds including a bald eagle. The yard is spacious with more chairs. There is a private dock with kayaks; we paddled both ways on the river enjoying so much beauty. The cottage is on a dirt road for great walking with both water views and woods, blackberries too. Downtown is nearby with a fabulous used bookstore behind the library. CDs were 3 for a dollar. We bought bags of books and CDs. There are good books in the house too. The rising Tide is a wonderful natural food store with organic food and bulk. They have a farmer's market too. We love Rockland and Rockport for their fabulous museums though the Rockport museum will be moving to Rockland soon. Rockland has a huge farmers market and so much more to see and do. One day we went to Brunswick to go to the wonderful Bowdoin College Art Museum. Damariscotta is a great jumping off place as there is so much in the area including the ocean. Our only complaint, actually it's my husband who values his privacy, is Rebecca's husband has a workshop in the garage so was there almost daily to get supplies etc. I didn't mind as the house faces the river.

PERFECT IN EVERY WAY for nature loving family with teenage daughter and grandmother

5 of 5
We've been to Maine with VRBO before but this will be our go-to from now on! This home was set in the perfect natural environment - you felt like you are really away from it all! On the water with so many acres, we weren't crowded by neighbors and the landscaping so carefully incorporated Maine's natural bounty with accessibilty that young and old alike could explore, relax, and unwind! Both wild and culivated blueberry bushes were a real treat! The design and decoration of the house were flawless! Pocket doors, accessible bathrooms, open-space living area with cozy reading spots - all made us feel comfortable at once - plenty of room to share but enough places for privacy without being entirely removed from the rest of the group. Completely conducive to a rewarding and easy mixed-group vacation spot. All furnishings in the house were just as carefully selected - most done by local craftspeople and artisans - a welcome change from your typcial rental where the owner offloads junk from their attic. No detail was overlooked - from the quality bedding and towels to the roll up screens in the windows and luxe appliances - would gladly stay here again and again. We would have been perfectly content to stay here all day - but neary excursions were unforgettable. Don't miss Reid State Park, Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens, antique shopping in Wiscasset, or whale watching in Boothbay! Maybe my favorite time was on the river in the early morning calm with my daughter and being surrounded by shy but curious seals - surfacing and diving - snorting their hellos. Cooking-in was fun but exploring local eateries was a great time too! I'm not sure which of the local lobster eateries was the best, but we had fun trying to decide. Ships Chow Hall is not to be missed - prepared from scratch by friendly owner and staff - loved the patty melts and fries! We were fortunate to notice a sign for a fish chowder supper at Trinity Episcopal Church in Wiscasset - those ladies know Chowder! Don't miss a trip to Five Islands Lobster Company for their fried haddock. Also stopped by Micucci's Italian Grocery in Portland on the way in for anti-pasti and not-to-be-missed pizza kits for the week! This home is close enough to where you want to go, but far enough that you can really get away from it all - Perfect in Every Way! My only regret aside from not being able to stay longer - is that we only got to see it in the Summer and couldn't use the gorgeous fireplace!!
