Relaxing Maine Vacation

4 of 5
With two five-year olds and a dog in tow we headed out on our vacation. The lake is actually a smaller lake (or giant pond) connected to the larger beddington lake if you do a googlemaps search like I did. The water is clear for swimming, we caught and released several small sunfish and took a few canoe rides. There were neighbors on the far side of the pond for Saturday and Sunday and then we had the place to ourselves. The town of Milbridge is nearby (30 min) which is where we started as we arrived early and Jeff, the property manager, suggested we check out. There is a beautiful park there way off the beaten path with a gorgeous view of the ocean and tidal pools to search through. We took day trips to Machiasport, Bangor (rainy day movies), and Bar Harbor and Acadia (1.5 hours). Everything is a little farther away than I expected but we don't mind driving and really appreciated the beauty and seclusion. It was soft shell lobster season. We found soft shell lobster in Milbridge for $3.50/lb so had lobster boils back at the cabin twice (and brought some back with us to share with friends). It was also the start of blueberry season. We got to see the fields turning blue and the seasonal workers setting up camp at the Wyman's plant. I snatched up 5 quarts of those little gems from a roadside stand and am freezing them now. We did find the natural spring. We ended up drinking that water the last couple of days and our kids thought it was pretty cool bending over and drinking right from stream pouring out of the pipe. The large enclosed porch was great for the kids to play in while we had to be inside. And having a washer meant coming home without dirty laundry which is always a plus! Furniture was a little worn but clean. The TV is an older console style with DirecTV attached. My (spoiled) daughter saw me grab the remote and said "Huh? Where's the TV?" Imagine if she saw a tape player! Mind Blown. All in all we had a fantastic vacation and would suggest it to anyone.

Perfect Getaway!

5 of 5
I picked this cabin because I wanted a private lakefront getaway, and this exceeded my expectations. The owner is sweet, knowledgeable, and exceedingly accommodating - He offered to pick up veggies, meat, and cheese from local farmers' markets - And even baked the chicken for us! Being greeted with a cooler of fresh veggies, goat cheese, and a baked chicken was an amazing way to start the weekend. The cabin is clean and has everything you need - Bed, cooking stove, fireplace... The wooden canoe is beautiful and a sweet ride on the lake. The lake is gorgeous - You wake to loon calls and sun across the lake, which is mere steps away from the cabin. The water is clean and fresh and perfect for swimming and bathing, though don't forget your water shoes or water sandals! The lake bottom is a bit sharp and rough for tender-foots like us. There is a short hike from where you park to the cabin, and the trail is not flat - Just take heed, especially if the ground is damp! Everything is as it is described in this post, though the pictures hardly do it justice, and more - HIGHLY recommended if you're looking for a woody getaway.
