You just found your vacation property!

5 of 5
We had a wonderful experience at property 233669 on Merrymeeting Bay, Maine. As travelers, it is important to us to feel at home at a rental property. After all, we are on vacation. We want to stay at a place that is comfortable and, to some extent, better than home. From the awesome architectural design of the house, the attention to detail in decorating, the landscaping, the view, the smell of balsam fir and the remote away-from-it-all experience (yet so close to many towns), you definitely are in for a treat. To be honest, my partner and I said several times “we could live here”. The pictures do not do this property justice. As of our stay in October 2014, all of the furniture in the common areas had been updated to comfortable leather couches. The private beach area is great for both dogs and small children as it is a slow incline into the water during low tide and not rocky. We kayaked the bay (awesome!) and hiked the local conservation trails 100 ft or so from the property daily. We drove to both Rangeley State Park and Acadia State Park for some awesome hiking and biking with the dog. We had dinner at several of the restaurants that the owner had recommended (Mae’s for breakfast, Red’s Eats for lobster rolls, El Camino and Enoteca Athena for dinner) and were not let down. They were great recommendations. We visited many local attractions that were listed in the information packet provided by Ariane including Boothbay Harbor, Popham Beach, downtown Bath, downtown Brunswick and some awesome local breweries. Whether you are looking for a property for solitude, luxurious getaway, outdoorsy activities or proximity to nightlife, this property has it all. You can be as active in the outdoors as you wish, lounge on the chairs and take in the smell/view, or head into town for some great food and local microbrews. We have rented from Homeaway on several occasions in the Adirondacks, Lake Anna, Smith Mountain Lake, Deep Creek Lake, Dolly Sods, Ashville, Poconos and in Europe. This is hands down the best property we have ever rented from Homeaway. And no, we do not know the owner personally. It was just that great of an experience. We definitely enjoyeed our stay!!

Peace and beauty

We loved the property. The cabin was beautiful, and the screened porch was heaven morning coffee, afternoon relaxation, or evening drinks. If there weren't so many things to do within short driving distance, We could have spent the whole time on that porch. We enjoyed the privacy, the views, and the access to the water with our rented canoes. Can't wait to go back!

Perfect location!

This is a wonderful property located literally on Popham Beach. The cottage has modern amenities (cable tv, wifi, etc.) but maintains a very rustic charm. It has plenty of room for a family not to feel confined and lots of windows for ocean breezes and views. My teen daughter and I spend a week here for her birthday and just loved it. As with any cottage near the ocean, there are pros and cons, non of which we found a problem. PROS: -- on the beach, within walking distance to the local restaurant Spinney's (very good serving B, L, D) -- kitchen has everything you need + a washer and dryer -- a separate tv room with a door to shut out kids if you need to :-) -- the beach is long and flat and perfect for small kids and walking your dog -- property manager was very responsive and a pleasure to deal with CONS: -- water has very metallic smell when showering (common with oceanfront properties with a well) -- must bring and use bottled water for drinking and cooking (again, not really an issue) -- neighbors are very sweet but so close next door that when they're home you can hear everything -- property outside (porch furniture) is not comfortable and is a bit run down - when we arrived it was covered in dust, pollen, and spider webs. We just took a hose to it all and was fine, but the cleaning crew needs to step this up a bit. Overall, it's a great spot to make memories with your loved ones. If you like "authentic" then this is the place.
