Maine At Its Finest!

5 of 5
Harbor Cottage is Maine at its finest! The location is excellent. All you have to do is cross the road for the freshest lobster you will ever cook; cross the road to purchase Maine's finest crab roll; cross the road to board the ferry to visit some of Maine's picturesque small islands; cross the road for great dining at Seafood Ketch; cross the road for an enjoyable and enlightening lobster boat tour. Or drive a bit for a lighthouse view and photo session, or to climb a mountain, or to take a short hike to walk on Maine's famous rocky coast. While at home on this side of the road (this "road" is narrow, lightly trafficked and will in no way impede your enjoyment of the location), you will relax in the bright and cheery decor of the cottage (no dark knotty pine paneling here) with windows galore providing views from every room---even bathrooms. This cottage offers all the comforts of home plus views (that you probably don't have at home). See that little balcony off the second floor? It's the perfect spot from which to watch the lobster boats head out early in the morning---or the perfect spot to spend the cocktail hour. We can't wait for next September!

Well-furnished cottage on Maine coast

5 of 5
It has been several years since our last review and we have to say that this cozy, comfortable, well-furnished cottage in the heart of Maine vacationland has only improved tremendously since we first started visiting 8 or 9 years ago. A complete renovation and expansion three years ago almost doubled the space in the cottage and the addition of a screened-in porch has made it delightful to sit outside in the late afternoon or evening without bugs. We so much look forward to our yearly trips to Maine and our two weeks at the HeadoftheHarbor cottage. Knowing that the cottage and the accommodations will be clean and so well stocked, makes just one less worry for us at vacation time. We can truly say that this cottage is about as close to having a summer home as we will probably ever have.

Wonderful place to stay!

5 of 5
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Pointed Fir cottage! The house was very comfortable and well equipped for all of our needs. The cottage is set back from the road and private, the rooms are comfortable and very welcoming, and the porch (complete with a nice gas grill) looks over a lovely yard. Thurston's restaurant on the harbor is a short walk from the cottage, and Southwest Harbor is a short drive. We also enjoyed the quieter pace of this area compared to the busier Bar Harbor area. The listing agent, Paula, at Dunbar Real Estate, was very helpful. Emails were answered promptly and our security deposit was returned quickly. We would definitely recommend this cottage to anyone interested in exploring Desert Island!
