Superb walkability to sea, shops, and food

4 of 5
This house is designed for a large group (see below for a bathroom caveat). It has the greatest view of Frenchman's Bay of all the private properties on the street. It's a very short walk to all you might want for a coastal vacation -- ocean front, shopping, good dining and great seafood and pizza. I would recommend confirming the date of arrival with the owner a day ahead of arrival to just make sure all is ready and access to the property goes without a hitch. I traveled here with my parents, my children and my grandchildren. There was plenty of space for all of us -- even enough space to get away from one another when needed (which we needed). The "big" kitchen -- as opposed to the one next to it -- is a chef's dream, unless she needs space to store food supplies or tries to remember which drawer or cupboard a utensil or pot was taken from. (Although ugly, a label on cupboards and drawers in the kitchen could help visitors put things back where they belong and help us find what we need without going through the massive space.) Bedrooms are all upstairs, which are accessed from two staircases -- one a very grand one near the front entrance and the second from the kitchen area. Bedrooms are all a good size, some with twin beds, most with double or larger. The difficulty here comes with bathroom locations. There is a half bath downstairs, which is easily accessible to all. There is an older full bath upstairs that is off a main hallway near where the kitchen stairs go up. The other two full baths are only accessible from a bedroom. One is between to adjoining bedrooms and not accessible from the hallway. The other is in a private bedroom that adjoins another bedroom, both of which can be entered from the hall -- as long as you don't mind going through someone's bedroom. There are electric heaters in closets throughout the house that mean you can use the sunporch in perfect comfort almost year round -- and you should do this. It's the absolute best view in the house and a lovely mix of old, new, sea, and people-peeping. We had a major glitch when we arrived. The owners were very responsive. In the end, our four generations enjoyed their time here.

Wonderful Fall Family Vacation

5 of 5
My family enjoyed a week in beautiful Maine residing at Heavenly Days. The cottage is located on the sound in a fairly secluded setting. It was perfect to be away from the lights and the crowds so that we could enjoy evenings around the fire pit. On clear nights it is unbelievable how many stars you can see. From the yard and the porch we saw bald eagles, deer, porpoise and sea birds. On the nights that we didn't build a fire, we played some of the games that were provided (Clue, cards). Our one concern was only having one bathroom for 6 adults. We adjusted and it didn't pose much of an issue. Becky was very helpful and responded to any questions or concerns tht we had. If you are looking for a quaint, quiet, beautiful get away, Heavenly Days is your place.

Excellent

5 of 5
My boyfriend, our dog and I stayed in this house for a week this September. Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park are gorgeous, and the house and its location made it all better. This is their vacation home (I'm assuming) with a "side rental house", which is what this house is. It's a bit smaller than our city apartment and if you're an avid cook like myself, you may miss your kitchen, but the essentials are there. We didn't find wine glasses though, so you may want to bring a couple. The owners weren't home during our vacation, which was perfect for us as we were trying to escape from the busy city life, and well, people, haha The dock and water just a few feet away were priceless. So relaxing! My boyfriend and dog had a blast looking for crabs under the seaweed and putting them back in the water. Seeing the tide raise and go was nice too. We played horseshoes, our dog fetched the ball, we grilled food almost every day and had tons of lobster during our stay. The house is 5-10 minutes away from the "busy" Bar Harbor life. We did grocery shopping there. No Whole Foods or Trader Joe's available, but Hannafords is right there. Acadia National Park is also 5-8 minutes away, just perfect! We will definitely be back.
