COZY COTTAGE ON WESTERN BAY

5 of 5
We had such a great time staying in this cozy cottage. The sunroom overlooking the water was my favorite place to sit. We saw seals playing and the fog rolling in at night. At high tide, you can hear the water from the master bedroom which just lulled us to sleep. The kitchen has everything you need to cook meals if you want. Although there is not a washer and dryer, the kitchen sink is plenty big to rinse out a few items of clothes. Also, there is no wifi or TV which we thought was a bonus and we didn't miss either one at all! There is a radio so we listened to music. Cell service (Verizon) worked great! You can rent kayaks from a local company that will deliver right to the cabin (or bring your own) so we enjoyed the Western Bay waterfront access from the cabin. The cabin is located on a very quiet road and only 7 miles from the main entrance to Acadia National Park, 9 miles to Bar Harbor, and 10 miles to Ellsworth. We did not have any traffic to deal with. Lots of restaurants nearby and an IGA grocery that has everything else you might need. They even sell spirits and Maine's famous blueberry wine. Thank you Pat and Bob for sharing your cabin and we hope we can get to Maine again soon. There are many more hiking trails that we need to do.

A COZY COTTAGE IN THE HEART OF BAR HARBOR

5 of 5
Recently, I traveled to Bar Harbor, Maine to visit a childhood friend I had not seen in over 30 years. Arriving after dark and exhausted it was so wonderful to discover a sign with my name hand written in great big easy to read letters. Having confirmed this was the place I walked through the six foot privacy gate into a zen like back lot containing this quaint little cottage. I found the cottage to be clean, orderly and perfect for a couple or solo traveler. Some may prefer using the Futon in the main area to sleep on, however I was absolutely thrilled to find the second bed perched above in a loft accessed by ladder like stairs. It was then that thoughts of my childhood rushed back into my mind. I thought Woo-Hoo!!!, its my bunk bed!!! So, I climbed the stairs sliding over the top and directly into the comfy-cozy bed. The next morning waking up refreshed I was greeted by Lilly, Robin's amazingly friendly standard poodle. She must have sensed that I loved dogs and immediately wanted me to pet her and play. Shortly after she settled down and Robin emerged from her back door with a hot cup of coffee for me and some good conversation. While personable Robin gave me my space, while also being very accessibly if needed. If I had any complaints they would be that the wifi was rather spotty at times and there were no laundry facilities in the cottage. To be fair regarding the wifi, the town had a major power outage the day after I arrived, which knocked out major communication services in the town for at least a couple of days. In conclusion, Robin and Lilly were great hosts, the price is fair and the location is in easy walking distance to the town pier, as well as all of the interesting shops.

SUPER CLOSE TO EVERYTHING...

5 of 5
the information listed doesn't do this cottage justice. the cottage is literally a 15 minute walk to the center of town (with a six and twelve year olds mind you, it will probably be faster with just adults), which has a plethora of places to eat and shops to browse through. there isn't much open space around the cottage to run around in or to play wiffle ball games because it's surrounded by trees, but there is a school within a 5 minute walk that has basketball courts, a sizable playground, and a huge field. also, the cottage is conveniently located near two acadia park entrances... one that is about 2 miles down the road (the 233 entrance) and the other is the main entrance with visitor center which is about 10 minutes away (right off route 3). inside, the cottage was super comfortable (cable tv in every room, if you're into that sort of thing) and easily accommodated a cooking at home feel so we weren't eating out everyday. the decks were very relaxing and allowed for birdwatching without having to leave. all in all, we can't wait to come back!
