A COZY COTTAGE IN THE HEART OF BAR HARBOR

5 of 5
Recently, I traveled to Bar Harbor, Maine to visit a childhood friend I had not seen in over 30 years. Arriving after dark and exhausted it was so wonderful to discover a sign with my name hand written in great big easy to read letters. Having confirmed this was the place I walked through the six foot privacy gate into a zen like back lot containing this quaint little cottage. I found the cottage to be clean, orderly and perfect for a couple or solo traveler. Some may prefer using the Futon in the main area to sleep on, however I was absolutely thrilled to find the second bed perched above in a loft accessed by ladder like stairs. It was then that thoughts of my childhood rushed back into my mind. I thought Woo-Hoo!!!, its my bunk bed!!! So, I climbed the stairs sliding over the top and directly into the comfy-cozy bed. The next morning waking up refreshed I was greeted by Lilly, Robin's amazingly friendly standard poodle. She must have sensed that I loved dogs and immediately wanted me to pet her and play. Shortly after she settled down and Robin emerged from her back door with a hot cup of coffee for me and some good conversation. While personable Robin gave me my space, while also being very accessibly if needed. If I had any complaints they would be that the wifi was rather spotty at times and there were no laundry facilities in the cottage. To be fair regarding the wifi, the town had a major power outage the day after I arrived, which knocked out major communication services in the town for at least a couple of days. In conclusion, Robin and Lilly were great hosts, the price is fair and the location is in easy walking distance to the town pier, as well as all of the interesting shops.

RETREAT IN PERFECT LOCATION

5 of 5
This home, along with the Gate House and the 2-bedroom apartment over the garage, served as the location for our week-long family reunion. The buildings and grounds are a retreat in and of themselves. All 24 of us agree that our only regret is that we were so active during our stay that we didn't spend nearly enough time just enjoying this property. Next time we would plan to spend more evenings at 'home' playing lawn games and enjoying the amazing gardens and grounds. The location of this property is perfect - close to the Hull's Cove entrance to the park for endless hiking, biking and climbing; close to town for the inevitable trips for ice cream; and close to access to the south end of the island without going through town. The owners and managers of this property were friendly and accommodating and treated us like extended family coming for a visit. This is one of the best vacations we've ever had and we would return here in a heartbeat.

THE BEST RENTAL HOUSE ON THE ISLAND

5 of 5
If you are looking for a large, perfectly located, and comfortable house in the Bar Harbor area - La Maisonette is the best available. It is located just a few blocks from most everything in the center of town so you never have to use a car and search for parking places. The Island shuttle stops near the house and can take you to the main places in Acadia. The back yard is large enough for outside games and parking several cars. With one large kitchen and one small kitchen, there is plenty of room to prepare meals for a large group. Large formal dining room and two tables in the breakfast room for the kids. The front screened porch is awesome for sipping early morning coffee and looking out at Frenchmen's Bay. There is so much room in the house that everyone can spread out for different activities. The kids loved going exploring in this neat historical house. Our family loved La Maisonette and highly recommend it to others.
