Superb walkability to sea, shops, and food

4 of 5
This house is designed for a large group (see below for a bathroom caveat). It has the greatest view of Frenchman's Bay of all the private properties on the street. It's a very short walk to all you might want for a coastal vacation -- ocean front, shopping, good dining and great seafood and pizza. I would recommend confirming the date of arrival with the owner a day ahead of arrival to just make sure all is ready and access to the property goes without a hitch. I traveled here with my parents, my children and my grandchildren. There was plenty of space for all of us -- even enough space to get away from one another when needed (which we needed). The "big" kitchen -- as opposed to the one next to it -- is a chef's dream, unless she needs space to store food supplies or tries to remember which drawer or cupboard a utensil or pot was taken from. (Although ugly, a label on cupboards and drawers in the kitchen could help visitors put things back where they belong and help us find what we need without going through the massive space.) Bedrooms are all upstairs, which are accessed from two staircases -- one a very grand one near the front entrance and the second from the kitchen area. Bedrooms are all a good size, some with twin beds, most with double or larger. The difficulty here comes with bathroom locations. There is a half bath downstairs, which is easily accessible to all. There is an older full bath upstairs that is off a main hallway near where the kitchen stairs go up. The other two full baths are only accessible from a bedroom. One is between to adjoining bedrooms and not accessible from the hallway. The other is in a private bedroom that adjoins another bedroom, both of which can be entered from the hall -- as long as you don't mind going through someone's bedroom. There are electric heaters in closets throughout the house that mean you can use the sunporch in perfect comfort almost year round -- and you should do this. It's the absolute best view in the house and a lovely mix of old, new, sea, and people-peeping. We had a major glitch when we arrived. The owners were very responsive. In the end, our four generations enjoyed their time here.

Veranda House ~ Anna's Quietside Cottages

5 of 5
I decided with my growing family that I would try something different. We love to travel but do not want to stay in a hotel or eat out every meal. We like to hike, bike and explore the sites and come back to something homey. Well, the Veranda at Anna's Quietside Cottages allowed is to do just that... We loved the space & practicality it allowed our family to have. I was so excited when I walked in and realized exactly what I'd rented. The photos didn't do it justice and it was so clean! I even commented to my family on how good the linens smelled. I could not have been more pleased with our family getaway. So so pleased with where we stayed! Thank you Marc and Victoria

Great place for family vacation!

5 of 5
Absolutely loved our stay at the end of this past summer. We were four adults, a toddler and an infant and we had plenty of space for everyone. The house has everything a family could need for a week of relaxation and exploration of this beautiful area. Not far from Bar Harbor and all the great trails and sights at Acadia National Park, but far enough to return to peace and quiet at the end of our active days. We especially loved having the safely fenced yard with room to roam for the little one and our dog. Beach combing at low tide was a special time for him as well and he even found a tiny starfish one day! We hope we can come back and stay again the next time we plan a trip to Maine.
