Wonderful Property

5 of 5
We chose this house for a father-daughter trip to Maine, and it worked out perfectly. Cherie is a wonderful host, keeps the Slate house well-maintained, and she had all the essentials we could need ready for us upon arrival. The house is spacious, beautiful, and the perfect size for two couples or a family that would still like to have their own privacy, since the second bed/bath is downstairs. We enjoyed our time at the property and found is to be a tranquil retreat at the end of a day out sightseeing. I would highly recommend this property to anyone traveling to the Bar Harbor area. Great experience, and the house is exactly as advertised :)

Great spot in town, close to everything

5 of 5
Only left a few days ago and so glad we went with this downtown Bar Harbor house. Being able to walk to restaurants, shops, grocery just across the street, the post office, etc turned out to greatly enhance our experience. The sand bar is just a couple blocks down Bridge Street, and at low tide you can hike right out and up Bar Island. The house itself is comfy and has just about everything you need for a group of singles or a larger family. We spent a few days just as a couple, where it was overkill, but then two additional couples with a total of 4 small children joined us, making a family of 10. We had no trouble with the house meeting our needs with the kitchen, bathrooms, laundry and sleeping arrangements all working out well. The house is just as displayed in the photos, though a few furniture items have changed. The upstairs bathroom is a particular treat with its oversized shower. Multiple entry doors make it possible for different parties to come and go without disturbing one another. The area is generally quiet as advertised. There is no driveway for parking right adjacent to the house, but this was not a problem during our stay even with 3 total cars for a few days. There are (free) municipal parking lots on either end of the small street. Driving to the various areas of Acadia National Park or other parts of the island is pretty easy, or there are the (free) Island Explorer buses that leave from a few blocks away and get you to a lot of the highlights without having to drive. You can even walk to a bike rental shop if you didn't bring your own, and then take the bikes on the bus to get to the carriage roads. We did not meet the owner in person but she was responsive on the phone and pleasant to deal with. Really, no concerns came up in the middle of the stay at all. Another plus is it's one of the few properties that doesn't stick to a rigid week-by-week schedule. We will definitely go back.

Bass Harbor Magic

5 of 5
We were 7 friends all 70 and then some. Some of us had been to Bass Harbor before and for others this was a first. The house is charming and very well equipped, beds, kitchen, washer and dryer and best of all a great porch. The owners were most helpful in suggesting not to be missed sites and restaurants. Our favorite morning spot was Common Grounds, they serve the best popovers on the island, and coffee and old fashion oatmeal...not to be missed. The house allowed each of us together spaces and private space, which was needed for a 2 week vacation with car travel. I will recommend this house to any and all who plan to visit Mt Desert Island and Arcadia National Park. During the summer there is free bus service on the island and over to Ellsworth so its possible to enjoy Seamist cottage without a car.
