Great place to relax

4 of 5
The house was great. Clean and well maintained. It was everything described on the VRBO site. No bad surprises. Jesse was easy to work with, and provided great customer service. We did a lot of communicating leading up to the trip, and once there, everything went well, so we didn't have to bother him at all during the stay. It was a relaxing place to return to after running around on the island all day. Nice and quiet - in the woods. It has neighbors, but lots of space (and trees) between houses. Plenty of space to spread out, and you have your choice of staying inside or hanging out on the covered porch in front, the deck out back or in the back yard by the little fire-pit. The property does have 3 cows (steer) which were fun to watch and listen to. Our daughter loved it - and would ask for the "cows" each morning. It is within a mile of some of the trails which was fantastic! And there are lots of other trails really close by. Plenty of activities to keep you busy without having to go to the more populated areas around Bar Harbor. There is a butterfly garden very close by that was really pretty. Close to a grocery store, close to Southwest Harbor. You'll want a car or bike to get to Southwest Harbor and the aforementioned activities though. You can walk, but it'll take a while. Good restaurants close by, but a fully stocked kitchen (utensils and appliances) if you want to cook for yourself! If you want to go to Bar Harbor or other points on the eastern side of the island - figure about a 25-30 min drive. If you are looking for a nice, quiet place away from lots of people - I would recommend this place. It's not on the water, but it's in the woods, which is just as relaxing.

Fabulous Views

5 of 5
My husband and I stayed at the house during early fall. The views from the deck are simply wonderful. The view is something straight out of "The Travel Channel"! You have grand views of Frenchman's Bay and Porcupine Island. Cruise ships pass right by the house. It would be nice to have the area below the deck, all the way to the drop off, tidied up some. There are many fallen trees and much debris. One cannot walk out to the edge, although as high up as the house is, one may not want to do that! (I am sure it is for safety reasons that the piles of fallen trees are there. Also, the property has nesting eagles and this may disturb them.) The house is well maintained and well stocked. It's lovely to rent a home that offers some salt and pepper, coffee filters, and sugar. There are plenty of pots and pans, along with plenty of flatware and plates, glasses, etc. The king bed upstairs was fairly comfortable, although the light from the driveway is very bright and shines in the window. We had to hang a blanket over the window. We are very light sleepers. This is the only bedroom we used. There is no view of the water from the upstairs bed. The upstairs bathroom is very small and a little dated. Also, given the positioning of the bed, one cannot open the bathroom door fully as it hits the foot of the bed. The toilet is right there at the foot of the bed. Know your partner well if you use that bedroom. :) We preferred using the downstairs shower as there is more room . The house has no cable or satellite television. The antennae on the roof worked off and on, but we didn't mind. The internet worked very well. The house is close to town, just a 5 minute drive. Lots of great restaurants and shopping nearby. The entrance to Acadia National Park is right there too. You are close to everything! The house is comfortable, extremely clean, and tidy. If you are looking for a property that is very modern and fussy, this is not the place. If you want stunning views, to see wildlife, to be able to hike right from your door, and to have accessibility to all the area has to offer, call Nancy. She was wonderful and will help make your stay beyond perfect.

Phenomenal

5 of 5
Even better than the pictures if you can believe it. This is by far the nicest rental property I've stayed in. It's clean, comfortable, private, spacious, nicely decorated, and a great home design that makes you feel like you're in the middle of the forest through its many windows. After walking in and seeing the downstairs, my wife and I each independently had the same thought ... wow, we could really see ourselves living in a house like this all the time. Initially I was torn between booking our stay at this property and a lesser one with an ocean view. I definitely made the right choice. It's a quick walk down the street to Bass Harbor, less than a 10 minute drive from Southwest Harbor where there are several good places to eat, and about 30 minutes from Bar Harbor. While it's not right in the middle of the action and not immediately adjacent to Acadia, we found the location to be great for our needs. A 15 minute drive and I was hiking on amazing trails in the park every morning. Visiting in the fall was an extra treat as the colored leaves were really going off during our visit. The one day we spent (off season) in Bar Harbor, I was surprised by the crowds due to the cruise ships that port there on a regular basis. I would NOT want to stay there if visiting Acadia. Bass Harbor fit the bill. Maria was very easy to work with. I certainly will look to stay at this property the next time I visit the area. I'll soon be needing another fix of lobster!
