Nature at its best!!

5 of 5
This was our second trip to this beautiful lake. We were impressed with the rustic charm of this cottage the first time around and that was what brought us back here again along with of course the quiet solitude of the lake itself! This is a land where time stands still! Sometimes it is so calm that there is no whistling of gentle breeze nor are there any raindrops to stir the deep calm of the blue reflection in the crystal clear water. I used to look through the enchanted beauty of the evening horizon every day to see my thoughts disappear as I tried to absorb this heavenly beauty. All I heard then was the sound of the beat of my heart as the echo of the rhythm of nature harmonized with me! The cabin is very clean and well stocked with the basic necessities. The owners Connie and Jeanne live next door and are always eager to help! We appreciated everything thy did for us to make our stay relaxing and enjoyable. Aside from fishing boating and just relaxing on the dock listening to loons, we also went to St. John island and Campabello island in Canada. Lubec (Easternmost town of U.S.) is only hour and half away. We also went to Columbia Falls just to get the wild blueberry pies from Wild Blueberry Land..delicious!! Yancy's in Callais, Nook and Cranny's on rt 9 and Cohills Inn in Lubec are some of delicious restaurants to explore! Thank you so much Jeanne and Connie! We will be returning again!

Lovely but buggy. With wind, PERFECT!

The house was exactly as pictured. We enjoyed the sandy lake; the water was crystal clear, fishing was good, and we especially enjoyed the supplied kayak's. The house required about 4 hours of cleaning prior to using the facility which was a huge inconvenience after driving 11 hours to get there. Be prepared if going in July with plenty of bug spray. The mosquitos were relentless. I would recommend going to Cutler (do not take Rt 1) to get Lobsters from Little River Lobster Company. We purchased enough for the week and enjoyed them fresh out of the water. The Nook and Cranny Resturant is a must as the food was perfect and the environment quaint. Thank you for the stay Meddybemps Lake.

WInter Wonderland!

5 of 5
We had a wonderful time on our winter vacation at Pikku Suomi! The house was very clean and comfortable and the view of the frozen Meddybemps Lake was beautiful. Gazing up at the stars over the lake at night was one of our favorite things to do. We went snowshoeing on the lake and also at Moosehorn National Wildlife Refuge nearby. The peace and quiet were exactly what we needed to break away from city life. The nearby town of Calais had everything we needed to stock the pantry as well as a few good restaurants to dine out. We were also close enough to take day trips to Bar Harbor, Eastport and Lubec. There were a few shops open in the off season, but the scenery and coastal drives were well worth the trip. Jack Russell's Steak House & Brewery in Bar Harbor is definitely recommended!! We would love to return again someday to Pikku Suomi. It has been one of our most scenic vacations by far! Hope to see you again! Heather and Sid (January 2010) Philadelphia, PA/Los Angeles, CA
