Lovely, quite, well maintained, clean, nice layout

5 of 5
I needed a place to spend quiet time with a friend and mark a sad anniversary. Rented the house for 2 weeks. One for us, second for family and friends ,9 all together. The water was beautiful, the house clean, kitchen well supplied. Quite location. Furnishings are modern and comfortable. Master bed and bath very comfortable. Scott and Daria provided good communication and we felt very satisfied with how everything worked out. Had great weather to bike, hike, shop. Frank, the caretaker, was considerate with the upkeep. We loved the place! Definitely recommend this property.

6 star view, 4 star property with 5 star potential

4 of 5
Ella's was the 6th or 7th luxury Home Away rental we've been in (all in different parts of the U.S.). Because of this, we are very picky, probably more so than most. I'm guessing most people would and do give Ella's a 5 star review and it comes close, but there are a few things for us that made it a 4. First...the many pros. Awesome view and property!! Lots of games, DVDs, kayaks are a real plus. Nice open floor plan for family and entertaining. Loved two beds on 1st floor and two on 2nd. Would be good for two families sharing. So nice to have laundry onsite given we traveled with a toddler. Did I mention the view?! Well stocked kitchen, we cooked most nights Enough toilet paper, hand soap, dish detergent, etc. that we didn't have to buy; much appreciated. Nicely decorated Cons for us Dining room chairs have no backs. Very hard with toddler. Poor lighting in dining and living rooms, hard to read at night (which we like to do to relax) Clean where it mattered, but not as clean under sinks, couches, beds as we are used to. Note again we have a toddler so we spend a lot of time on floor and hunting for toys. No stand up shower in master bath/had to shower in hall bath. If the first three things were changed this would easily be 5 stars! Or, if you don't care about those things.

A great cottage on a great location

5 of 5
We have been vacationing in this area for over 20 years and this is one of the nicest locations we haved stayed. The cottage is somewhat elevated from the ocean level which allows a spectacular view to the southwest over Blue Hill Bay, the west end of Swan's Island and beyond to Isle Au Haut. The cottage was exactly as described although the physical description could not convey how very comfortable the place is. The layout is simple, bright and clean with everything one could need for a vacation stay. The deck was perfect for the coktail hour and wonderful sunsets. The kitchen had everything and more. Beds were comfortable, and with the southwest breeze at night you can bring the August night time temperature down to the mid 50's just by how far the windows are left open. Everything worked well, including the TV's and the internet. My wife was surprised to find the French channel on the TV selection as French is one of her hobbies. We have done mostly all of the usual local attractions, but one of our favorites is Island Cruises mid day boat tour out of nearby Bass Harbor to Frenchboro for lunch (BYO wine). On this trip, we ran into a school of 30-40 dolphins, which the Captian had never seen in all his years doing this trip. Sawyer's Lobster Pound in Southwest harbor has one of the best lobster rolls ever as attested by the August edition of Downeast Magazine as one of the best in the state. And, lunch on the terrace at the Bar Harbor Inn is always a must-do for us. Without any reservations, we would recommend this cottage to anyone. It lacks nothing and has everything needed for day to day living and vacationing. It's the kind of place you don't mind just hanging out and relaxing, which we did on several afternoons. It's also very quiet and you can hear the loons down in the cove early in the morning after the lobstermen have left at 5:30 am for their days work.
