Great apartment in a great location

5 of 5
My friend and I stayed here for Mardi Gras this year and it was a great location. It is within walking distance to anything you may need; groceries, drug store, restaurants and shopping. It's also the perfect location for the parades. There is a laundry facility directly across the street. Parking was easy. We parked directly in front of the apartment most of the time. The beds were super comfortable. I have a bad back and I wanted to take the bed home with me! The tv worked fine for us. The shower was a little confusing, but we eventually figured it out. It's new and one of those fancy schmancy ones. Yes, the kitchen is small but it serves it's purpose. We used the microwave to heat up leftovers and used the coffee maker every morning. Besides, who visits New Orleans and cooks?! You should be eating at all the wonderful restaurants because you won't find this kind of food anywhere else. I would definitely stay here again! I would like to address the comments regarding the area being unsafe. If you aren't familiar with New Orleans, most of New Orleans is going to seem shady to you. In order to get to the Garden District and Uptown areas, you have to drive through some less fortunate areas. Once again, that's New Orleans. It's a very old city with lots of history and has been through enormous plights. This area is perfectly safe. It's also going through a ton of renovations. It's just old and full of character. Tip: Watch out for the trees along the street curbs; especially on St. Charles. They don't seem to respect the boundaries ;)

Great stay near Oak Street!

5 of 5
We had a nice time staying at La Parisienne. It is just a block or two from the fun restaurants on Oak Street. Walking to Breads on Oak for breakfast and Jacques Imos for dinner was so fun; it made us feel like locals! We also enjoyed sitting out on the screened front porch in the evening and watching people walk by on their way to the summer Mardi Gras parade on Oak. The kitchen was well stocked, and we appreciated having a washer/dryer if needed. The decor was charming and I would definitely stay again next time I am in New Orleans. Two things missing that I hope will be there next time: Hair dryer and iron/ironing board. All in all an "A+" experience.

Great location and price!

4 of 5
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Jewel Box, as it is exactly what we needed for my husband and I for a short two night stay during Carnival season! We had stayed downtown in the warehouse district the first two nights because of the proximity to a meeting I was attending and then moved uptown for the weekend so we could be close to the Maple Leaf Bar and Jacques-Imo's Cafe, which is one of the hottest tickets in New Orleans for anyone looking for "real Nawlin's food." Both are located just steps from the Jewel Box and so there is no need for a car, only downside is that the streetcar line was under construction while we there so if you are counting on it, then you have to get on and off and switch back and forth between it and a bus or walking, so somewhat of an inconvenience. Only downsides to the condo are as follows: 1) The bathroom is older and could use some updating, 2) The Bedroom mattress is not very comfortable at all and the bedding and pillows are old and warn out, 3) The den is very small and so if you plan on bringing a 3rd person to crash, they will not have much room. Neither of these really bothered us much because we were hardly in the apt/condo at all. Upside included that we LOVED having the screened in porch for the short times that we were there, and of course it is nice have a reasonable sized kitchen. Overall we definitely enjoyed our stay and will most certainly consider staying at the Jew Box again!
