French Quarter Fest/UNO Spring Testing

5 of 5
Great house in the Oak Street/Uptown area of New Orleans. QUIET AND SAFE!!! Extremely clean, comfy and cozy. We were in town for my son to do Spring Testing/Orientation @University of New Orleans and the French Quarter Festival. Oak Street has some fab restaurants: The Cowbell, Tru-burger, Mellow Mushroom/bars: The Maple Leaf/state of the art yoga studio: Oak Street Yoga-for $40 you get 7 classes + mat/towel, ask for the Travel Pack all within a very short walk. A quick drive took us to the lakefront to visit UNO/Freret Street Area -check out the High Hat Cafe/Mid-City-Veniezia a great Italian restaurant/Magazine Street-Juan's Flying Burritos/ Frenchmen Street -Snug Harbor Jazz Bistro. A short 3 block walk to the streetcar got us to the French Quarter,-a great ride up and back looking at the beautiful Garden District. You really didn't need to drive anywhere. This house has a great central location you can bus it/streetcar it or cab it anywhere. Thank you Brandon for sharing your house with us, we loved it!

Quirky and charming, neighborhood setting

4 of 5
1. FIVE STARS to Carrie and her team. The residence was clean, neat, and charming. Situated in a quiet residential area with several very nice restaurants and coffee shops nearby. There is a lovely deck just out of the front (or in this case back) door, which we used every day we were there. We were able to walk to French Quarter and pretty much everywhere we wanted to go. I messed up the reservation, which Carrie dealt with professionally and courteously. 2. FOUR STARS for the layout of the apartment. The stairs to the loft area are very narrow and steep, and you can't get to the front bedroom without going through the middle bedroom. This would have driven me crazy if our group had been couple, but as we were all female cousins, we dealt with it without any problems. 3. THREE STARS for the kitchen which is completely adequate, but has a monstrosity of a stove that we were all too frightened to use. If you are walking in the neighborhood, be careful of the condition of the sidewalks. And be prepared for a neighbor who thinks there should be no short term rental in "his" neighborhood. Ignoring him seems to work best. Overall, our stay was lovely, the city was as vibrant as ever, and the house gave us the privacy and space we wanted in a neighborhood we enjoyed. Thanks, Carrie!

Chili McAfee: Vacation Extraordinaire

5 of 5
My buddies and I took a road-trip down to New Orleans for Spring Break, and a mishap with the hotel left us without a bed to sleep in. Shirley, AKA Chili, is my buddy Ian's aunt, and she saved our entire trip. Her house is a work-in-progress, but it will be finished soon, and already looks beautiful. Plenty of beds, an out-door shower and nice patio space. The neighborhood looks a little rough, but the neighbors are friendly and the location is prime: The French Quarter is around a 10 minute walk away. Chili gave incredible recommendations for places to eat, drink, and catch some amazing music. She understands the culture and the life of NOLA, and anyone lucky enough to meet her is sure to enjoy her presence.
