This was our first girls’ trip to NOLA and we had a great experience. Susan was quick to respond and our booking was seamless. On arrival, we were warmly greeted by Susan and her husband. The apartment we rented was attached to the back of their home. It was cozy for four people, but would be ideal for a couple. It was extremely clean, which is a must, and tastefully furnished. The bedroom was spacious, bed was comfortable and the pull out couch in the living was positioned well enough for us to leave it pulled out. The only inconvenience, but workable, was that there was only one bathroom located in the bedroom. Despite this, all four of us were able to spread out to do hair and makeup. They also had a fully furnished kitchen and a washer/dryer that appeared new. We did not do any cooking or laundry, but enjoyed the refrigerator for beverages, breakfast items and leftovers. When we had some down town, we were able to take advantage of the furnished backyard to sip wine and drink margaritas, made in their blender.
When booking this rental, I was a little nervous about which area we should stay in, but I found that the Garden District and Susan’s house was just perfect. The neighborhood is quiet, but only a few blocks walk away from Magazine St. where cute shops, restaurants, bars and grocery stores were located. The distance was also not too far to St Charles, about 6 blocks, to catch the street car or a cab. If you’ve never been to NOLA, the street car easily takes you to the Warehouse District, Bourbon, and even the French Market. I suggest you take the street car all the way to Café Du Monde for a 45 minute leisurely ride. It will give you a chance to see a lot. If you’re in a bigger rush or going somewhere not easily accessible by public transportation, the cab ride from the house was only about $12-15 dollars to most tourist areas.
At the end of our trip, we were fascinated by NOLA housing and asked Susan to give us a tour of her newly renovated house. She was kind enough to show us pictures of their renovation process and we had a friendly chat about NOLA culture. This extra step really put the icing on the cake to our already pleasant trip and really made me excited to plan my next trip to NOLA. Our stay at Susan’s house was great! I would definitely do it again and recommend that if you stay here you schedule time to explore the excitement of the neighborhood that is right around the corner.
