Incredibly Delightful Adventure!

5 of 5
This is absolutely the greatest adventure vacation I've ever experienced! A couple of miles beyond Morgan City, the landscape transitions into a breathtaking wonderland of majestic cypress towering out of the swamp, draped in flowing Spanish moss. Large white cranes, great blue herons, and egrets wade the shoreline and perch on fallen limbs. Eagles, osprey, & kingfishers soar over the water seeking their dinner. Alligators silently cruise the waterways or pretend to be logs along the edge of the swamp. Turtles sun themselves on downed trees. Hummingbirds and swallows flit about in search of insects while finches, cardinals, thrushes, and swamp sparrows join the chorus of frogs and cicadas. The trees and water plants are as diverse and interesting as the wildlife. And it is all still pristine, in its original beauty, undeveloped and very sparsely populated and can only fully be appreciated by boat! That's why taking advantage of the handy pontoon is a must. We meandered along the shoreline gazing at the magnificent birds and moss draped trees, then found secluded inlets to picnic and fish. At night we basked in the hot tube picking out constellations and planets while serenaded by to a choir of frogs and cicadas. We are nature lovers, and it was a true Garden of Eden experience! In addition to all that is outside, the houseboat is immaculate inside and amazingly well stocked and roomy. The couch and chairs are comfortable with ample seating both in the living/dining area and on large the roof deck. The beds are quite good; I slept like a log. The quiet road out front is great for walking or biking. It follows the swamp for several miles and dead ends at Gros Marina where one can join the locals for home cooked food and open air dancing to a live band (on weekend afternoons). Roushs Market is fully stocked with groceries and ready to eat or grill foods for every palate. Susies is a warmly hospitable, authentic seafood restaurant that defies description and must be experienced! The Summertime houseboat offers a rare opportunity to fully embrace and experience the essence of the bayou in a way that is seldom available to outsiders.
