GREAT BASE FOR EXPLORING

5 of 5
The apartment is in a nice district of Kyoto, where there are a lot of interesting restaurants and shops around. It's a very good place to do sightseeing because its close to the Eastern mountains where so many intriguing temples, shrines, gardens and museums are located. The apartment is simple and clean, but it has everything you need! The internet was fast. The shower has great water pressure. The electric toilet was fun to use and the washer/dryer combo was a godsend! Great communication from the host. Directions were very clear and we had no problem finding the place even though it is hidden in a small and quaint alleyway. We really felt like we were part of a local Japanese neighborhood while staying here. By the time our week was done, we had made friends with several of the neighbors and the owners of the tea shop on the corner. The Japanese are so polite and lovely to deal with. Michi was always helpful and answered quickly to all our questions. We liked it a lot and would recommend the Blue tengu to anyone.

QUAINT GORGEOUS ACCOMMODATION

5 of 5
Rico's property in Gion was the perfect place for us to stay for our brief visit to Kyoto. Rico was an amazing host, so very helpful. It was like meeting up with an old friend. I received lots of information prior to our stay about getting there and she greeted us when we arrived in the early evening. It was a surprise realising there were no windows and natural light downstairs in the home, but this was the only thing I noticed negative about the property if I had to choose something. Also be aware the ceilings are very low if you are a tall person (thankfully my family are quite short so it didn't matter to us) The house was warm inviting and traditional. The futon's on the tatami floors were very clean, comfortable and there was plenty of room upstairs. It was also great having our own fridge, and kitchen to use and of course a washing machine (with provided detergent) with the little area upstairs to hang our washing out was wonderful. The bathroom with separate toilet and hand basin area was very user friendly and clean. The shower was nice and hot too! We loved the streets and ally the home is on and enjoyed evening walks in the area to eat some delicious Japanese food - we also caught a sneak of some Geisha! Overall everything about Rico's accommodation was wonderful, I just wish I had have been able to stay longer and soak up more of the area and Kyoto.

A COZY PLACE FOR 6 WITH GREAT LOCATION

5 of 5
We, 2 adults, 2 seniors and 2 kids, stayed comfortably in this 2-level townhome for 7 nights. The seniors slept in the bedroom equipped with normal beds, as it is easier for them to get up and down. And this bedroom was nice and quiet for their sleep. The rest of us enjoyed ourselves sleeping on the tatamis. All beds are very comfortable. My only complaints are the comforter is a bit too short than I would like and the bedroom upstairs we have is a bit bright at night as it faces the street with lights and traffic can be noisy for someone having hard time to fall in deep sleep as we were adjusting for the jet lags. Adding some heavy dark curtains should do the fix. Because of the jet lags, We hit the tourist spots every day as early as 6am, thanks for this place <5min walking distance from the subway so we avoided the commuters as well as the crowds in the tourist area. We then came back to the house for lunch and nap – two supermarkets steps away to buy fresh Sushi, Temporas and all the yummy food you can think of. We then in late afternoon explored the nearby area – like the Tofukuji, Fushimi-Inari and Sanjusangandu. All of these places are our favorites. Kitchen is well equipped considering the size of the space. The bathroom with the hot tub is amazing! It got many smart designs. The kids soaked there every day after dinner to relax, while I contemplated around the little garden. Every time after visiting Kyoto, I wondered if we Canadian really need so much space in our house. Worth mentioning, the phone provided in this house is actually a cell phone. Had we known that, we would have only ordered one instead of two from a rental company. Overall, all 6 of us were very happy about this place. We will definitely recommend it to everyone, and will come back when we visit Kyoto next time.
