FANTASTIC PLACE TO STAY IN TOKYO

5 of 5
We are a family of four, including two teenagers, and we stayed in this apartment for a week at the beginning of July. On arrival we were welcomed in to the apartment, shown around every room, given all the instructions we could possibly need, and then given heaps of useful information about the surrounding area. After that it was all ours for the week. We immediately felt comfortable. Everything was exactly how it looks on the website, the rooms and beds were comfortable and spacious, the kitchen really well equipped, and overall there was just so much space. We certainly did not expect an apartment in Tokyo to be so large and accommodating. Getting out and about was simple too, the buses and trains were very close by and taxis were easy to find. We also went for some lovely walks around the area, and found some great spots to eat. One really handy item is the great supermarket right downstairs. This was packed with everything we could have hoped for, so breakfasts were easy and it was ideal for those times when you would like a quiet night at "home" rather than having to go out for dinner. That sums up exactly what the apartment is, a home away from home, just in a different city. So much better than a cold hotel room. Thanks so much for making our holiday a memorable one. Oh, and how could I forget. That view...we spent every night and morning on the balcony just looking out at that view. Magnificent.

GREAT PLACE TO STAY

4 of 5
My family of 4, including 2 kids (aged 14 and 16) rented one of these apartments for a week's holiday in Tokyo. We enjoyed our stay very much and found the apartment to be very comfortable. It was small, but that's to be expected in Tokyo, but the Japanese brilliance for organising small spaces meant that the apartment was very functional. One child slept on the converted sofa bed, and the other on the floor on an extra futon mattress. The dining table and chairs were folded away every night to make room for this futon, but this wasn't a problem. The apartment is well equipped with kitchen items (we cooked dinner a couple of nights) and also features a washing machine. The wet clothes can be hung on the small balcony outside, which worked well. The bathroom is also very functional and makes good use of the small space with the wet room bath and shower separate from the toilet and handbasin. As noticed by other reviewers, the apartment is VERY close to the train line, but the double-glazing of windows keeps the majority of the noise outside and it wasn't a problem for us. Although the apartment is located a fair way from central Tokyo, we traveled to different areas every day, (eg Ueno, Shinjuku, Harajuku, Shibuya, Akihabara, and we took the train west to Mt Takao one day - highly recommended), so we would need to travel from wherever we stayed anyway. The trains, of course, are terrific and it was easy to get around Tokyo. The area around Nishi-Ogikubo, where the apartment is located, is superb. There are 2 amazing bakeries (St Germaine and Dila) next to the station, a karaoke place across the road from the station and, importantly for us as vegetarians, Hanada Rosso, a vegan burger cafe, just down the road. Great tasting burgers, but you may need more than one. Would also recommend Nagi Shokudo vegan restaurant in Shibuya. Our host, Makoto, was very friendly and helpful, responding to our questions by text and also (thankfully!) responding promptly to fix a blocked toilet on a Friday afternoon. All in all, a great experience. The only downside was that it took 6 weeks to receive our security deposit after our visit. The contract states that it will take 30 days, and this is even far longer than it takes to return the deposit compared to other VRBO properties I've stayed in (it usually takes less than 2 weeks). I'm unsure why LiveInAsia has this policy, but I think there's room for improvement there!

GREAT APARTMENT

4 of 5
This was a surprisingly large apartment in a good location. Well maintained and contains everything that you will require. A 5-10 minute walk to the subway, restaurants, and supermarket. Wander a little further and you are at the heart of Higashiyama. John was fantastic greeting us at 10.30pm after a long flight.
