Amazing property that embodies the beauty of Kyoto!

                          5 of 5
I stayed at the Gion House for 5 days with my husband and 2 children (2 and 7 years old) and we were so impressed. The house itself is absolutely beautiful and all the materials used in construction (remodeling) are of the very best quality. The high-tech bathtub system, toilet, W/D is so impressive. But the Japanese detail and design is the best feature of this michiya. I spent so much time just taking pictures of this fantastic property. So happy I stayed here and not in a traditional hotel- I really felt like I was coming home each night after a long day of sightseeing. We ate all our breakfasts here at the house and a couple dinners. The kitchen is small but surprisingly fully functional - it even includes a rice maker! We did several loads of laundry (necessary with my messy kids) and we just love the W/D - wow! And the futons were so comfortable and the pillows are amazing. We loved the pillows so much that we were thinking about buying some to take home. We priced them out at the local Dept store in Kyoto and they cost $150 each!! Too rich for my blood but wow, I will never forget sleeping on those plastic pillows, they're amazing!! The windows are amazing! We were just stunned at the high quality windows and appliances. Also the bathroom was great - I never skipped a bath or soak in that amazing tub! Again, it's a small tight bathroom but everything is so neat and perfectly designed - it works very well. I was a little concerned about the steep stairway and my kids but we kept them downstairs and it wasn't an issue. All I can say is that you will not be disappointed if you stay at this property - it's amazing in every way

                          Quaint Gorgeous Accommodation

                          5 of 5
Rico's property in Gion was the perfect place for us to stay for our brief visit to Kyoto. Rico was an amazing host, so very helpful. It was like meeting up with an old friend. I received lots of information prior to our stay about getting there and she greeted us when we arrived in the early evening. It was a surprise realising there were no windows and natural light downstairs in the home, but this was the only thing I noticed negative about the property if I had to choose something. Also be aware the ceilings are very low if you are a tall person (thankfully my family are quite short so it didn't matter to us) The house was warm inviting and traditional. The futon's on the tatami floors were very clean, comfortable and there was plenty of room upstairs. It was also great having our own fridge, and kitchen to use and of course a washing machine (with provided detergent) with the little area upstairs to hang our washing out was wonderful. The bathroom with separate toilet and hand basin area was very user friendly and clean. The shower was nice and hot too! We loved the streets and ally the home is on and enjoyed evening walks in the area to eat some delicious Japanese food - we also caught a sneak of some Geisha! Overall everything about Rico's accommodation was wonderful, I just wish I had have been able to stay longer and soak up more of the area and Kyoto.

Hidden gem in quiet neighborhood in Tokyo

                          5 of 5
The tokhouse was fantastic. We were a family with small children and had a friend join us too. So pleased we stayed here. Very convenient for exploring Tokyo. The house is traditional yet had all the gadgets and gizmos of the 21st century. We loved putting our futons each night and setting the screens to separate the room for privacy. The house was very clean and well equipped. There is a supermarket ls around the corner across the road and it is very close to the station. There are great restaurants in the area too. Would stay again!
