                      Quaint Gorgeous Accommodation

                      5 of 5
Rico's property in Gion was the perfect place for us to stay for our brief visit to Kyoto. Rico was an amazing host, so very helpful. It was like meeting up with an old friend. I received lots of information prior to our stay about getting there and she greeted us when we arrived in the early evening. It was a surprise realising there were no windows and natural light downstairs in the home, but this was the only thing I noticed negative about the property if I had to choose something. Also be aware the ceilings are very low if you are a tall person (thankfully my family are quite short so it didn't matter to us) The house was warm inviting and traditional. The futon's on the tatami floors were very clean, comfortable and there was plenty of room upstairs. It was also great having our own fridge, and kitchen to use and of course a washing machine (with provided detergent) with the little area upstairs to hang our washing out was wonderful. The bathroom with separate toilet and hand basin area was very user friendly and clean. The shower was nice and hot too! We loved the streets and ally the home is on and enjoyed evening walks in the area to eat some delicious Japanese food - we also caught a sneak of some Geisha! Overall everything about Rico's accommodation was wonderful, I just wish I had have been able to stay longer and soak up more of the area and Kyoto.

Every comfort in a traditional Japanese home

                      5 of 5
This is an incredible place to stay in the heart of historic Kyoto and is within walking distance to many important sites as well as a grocery store. It was a treat for our family to stay in this beautiful, traditional, comfortable, spotless machiya with every modern convenience and even its own small rock garden and water feature. It was a pleasure to work with Reiko by email before our trip and she patiently answered every question. Thomas came to meet us and give us a tour of the house when we first arrived and made us feel right at home. I would whole-heartedly recommend this machiya to anyone and hope that we will be able to stay here again someday. Staying here made our time in Kyoto absolutely prefect! Thank you!

Wonderful spacious apartment in quiet neighborhood near public transportation

                      5 of 5
I highly recommend this apartment. By Japanese standards, it is a very spacious one bedroom unit. Clean and well stocked with everything you might need for a short or long stay. Beds and the sofa bed are very comfortable. Deep soaking tub in shower room. It is on a side street and the neighborhood is very quiet. The apartment is within a 15-30 minute walk of numerous temples and gardens, and a few blocks walk to buses that will take you to Kyoto Station and other parts of Kyoto. The Raku Express bus for tourist sites also stops just a few blocks from the apartment. There is a small supermarket just 3 blocks distance and a larger one an additional 10 minute walk. The owner is gracious and very helpful.
