Yasaka House Kyoto

4 of 5
We had a great stay. The location is awesome, just off Shijodori road, a few steps to the river, many attractions and the train. There are tons of restaurants and cafes nearby. The house is on the second floor above a cafe. At night you might hear music from the cafe (we liked it). It has a traditional tatami mat in the sleeping area and a couch and breakfast bar in the living room/kitchen area. All appliances and equipment are brand new. There are also an Apple TV and a Nespresso machine. The kitchen is a decent size with a large refrigerator. There are heaters for the cold days, and air conditioning for summer (our stay was a very cold week in April, so we only had use for the heating). The keyless door makes getting in and out of the house very easy. Mori is super nice, responsive, helpful and accommodating.

Takasegawa Suites is in a prime location in Kyoto

4 of 5
This property is perfect for any stay in Kyoto. It has plenty of space with 2 double bedrooms downstairs and a spacious kitchen and living room upstairs which looks over the street and river. In cherry Blossom season it is SUPERB. It is quiet and yet only a 3 minute walk to the sights and amentities of Gion. The owner is very caring and helpful and offers to assist if one has any problems or questions. He can be contacted using the apartment's phone. He even offered to take us on a walking tour around the area but rain the next day spoilt the opportunity. Instead he left us some local beers to sample during our stay. Thank you Takasegawa Suites. We felt most welcome and thoroughly recommend others to stay here during their stay in Kyoto.

A beautiful and satisfying experience

5 of 5
In 2010-11 we spent a year in Japan on our 75’ cruiser, and nothing can compare to living in one's “home that moves around” when you travel to a foreign country. When my husband and I arrived in Kyoto, from the moment that we entered “Gion House” we knew that we were in a very special place. We rented this little house because from the description in VBRO it was so obvious that the owner felt a great deal of “pride” (in the very best sense of the word) in what he had been so instrumental in creating. We had the good fortune of meeting the owner, and discussing with him the process of restoring this traditional “Machiya”. Having been home builders in “a previous life”, we were very interested to learn that an elderly Japanese craftsman had restored the interior space using traditional methods of construction, while supervised down to the most minute details by the owner, from the ancient cedar table in the main living space, to the pottery soaking tub, the charming light fixtures and small traditional Kyoto style garden. We appreciated its traditional qualities, yet at the same time this house felt as if it was also uniquely “modern”, and EVERYTHING in this little house was of the highest quality and maintained to perfection. The description in VRBO says that this house was opened in October 2011, but it might just as well have been in March 2015. We timed our visit to Kyoto so that we arrived as the cherry blossoms were just beginning to bud. We saw them open to full flower and then watched the delicate petals drop like snowflakes to the ground. We expected to enjoy the beauty of the Sakura, but were transported as well by the beauty and comfort of Gion House.
