Safe, beautiful vacation therapy

5 of 5
4 over 40 girlfriends thinking we were so brave heading down to the "wilds" of Jamaica, off the beaten path, and it turned out to be the funnest, safest, most enjoyable vacation ever! Mia's fabulous info was passed on to us so promptly, almost anticipating our concerns and needs. She had Deano pick us up after patties and Red Stripe at MBJ arrivals, straight to Boscobel to swim and unwind, knowing Paulette's famous beef stew and Deano's rum punch was awaiting us; relaxed completely the first night and forgot that we were supposed to be "worried". Paulette came back the next morning, made codfish and ackee for breakfast (try it!!) and then took us out to the street to catch the taxi/bus? to the market. Gotta see that. Mia's game plan worked, all went smoothly, nothing to fear, nobody hassling us, nearby places to walk to, new food discoveries, great little dogs, and what wonderful people! I loved having my own room and private bathroom, the view of the sea was outrageous, Paulette and John were super-helpful, and we each spent less than budgeted though we toured around and saw a lot of the local sites. Deano was fun, helpful, and reasonable. The trip to Blue Hole was one of the best days of my life, and in the end we had no regrets other than not being able to stay longer! This traveler's tip: It's worth it to have Paulette and John do all the cooking when you're staying in, then let your focus be to snorkel out to the reef, relax on the beach, in the hammock, on the patio, get a massage, plan excursions, take lots of pictures, post them on Facebook and make everyone jealous! Isn't that what a great vacation's all about?!

A wonderful Cottage

5 of 5
We had a wonderful stay in the Rental. The cottage was very clean and comfortable and the pool was so beautiful. Jennifer, Lucien, and Sandra are very kindly. They have helped us all the time and answer any quesions from us. At the evening Sandra has cooked for us. It was so delicious and we are thinking about the wonderful Meals so often. :). In summary we can say it was a wonderful holiday and we come back to Jamaica in few years. We love the attitude of life from the jamaican people. It was such a great experience. Now we we are back in Germany and we missed the beautiful weather. :) One Love Inez and Michael

The Real Jamaica!

5 of 5
After many years of traveling and living around the world before having kids, this was our first time traveling with the kids. They'd been on vacations before (i.e., Disney, all-inclusives, US vacation rentals, etc.), but this was the first time they'd travel like we used to--living like and with locals, visiting places off the beaten path, absorbing culture. Rose Apple Villa was the perfect home base for us and our trip was amazing! Our kids are 6 and 8. They loved exploring the beautiful property (my son became quite adept at climbing coconut trees...), visiting with the neighbor's pigs and bunnies, hanging out with the dogs, swimming in that massive pool! Even homework was more fun on the veranda with the fantastic view. We all fell in love with Jacquie and happily took advantage of the cooking option- she is an amazing cook! My son would take one bite of food, then run into the kitchen and hug her and tell her he loved her (which is saying a lot, because his biggest concern on this trip was "someone who couldn't cook as good as mom"). We had so much fun shopping for ingredients in the local specialty markets with her, the house was immaculate despite all the in and out we did, she did our laundry (!!) and she braided my daughter's hair so we didn't have to get it done in the market. I wish we had Jacquie at home! It was a real treat. Wayland was lovely and took care of everything we needed him to - we visited during a drought, so water deliveries were necessary (and satellite service calls because the water guys knocked the wires out). Everything was taken care of while we were out with only minor inconvenience. Kirk drove us not just to local places (i.e., grocery store, internet cafe, Chukka Adventures), but all over the island--to YS Falls, Alligator Pond (Little Ochie's is all it's cracked up to be!), Kingston, Port Antonio, even a local orphanage so we could visit and our kids could help out. He's a superb driver (those roads in the mountains are nuts!), has a killer reggae collection, answered all 10,000 questions we asked, his rates were totally reasonable and he's just a really nice guy. We sorta fell into going to Jamaica after a trip to Puerto Rico didn't work out and we all feel so lucky things ended up this way and that we found Rose Apple Villa. This was the perfect introduction to travel for our kids and we were both amazed with how much Jamaica had to offer those who wanted a true travel/culture experience as opposed to the resort stuff.
