Lots of Space, Meets Every Need

4 of 5
Nicola and Nausicaa are very nice and were very accommodating during our stay. They met us at the house upon our arrival and even picked a few things up for us at the store since it would be closing shortly after our arrival! Norberto was also very helpful and all speak English. They want you to enjoy their home as much as they do! Quiet neighbourhood on a dead-end street. The house was large with lots of space. Four comfortable bedrooms upstairs, three with a Queen bed and one with a twin and two twin-sized folding beds. All with plenty of storage. The main living area was large and open with a very deep and comfortable couch that could easily double as a bed. New large glass kitchen table (purchased for us during our stay to replace an older table that had broken). The house had many conveniences: surround-sound entertainment system with overhead projector, Sky cable network, large (mostly Italian) library in entryway. The main kitchen is small but works just fine and includes plenty of dishes, cups, utensils, pots, pans, etc. Includes an Italian coffee “moka” and an American style coffee maker. Kitchen also has a microwave. The house was also “child-ready”, with a carseat, new pack-n-play crib, single stroller, children’s toys including playhouse in backyard. The yard is large and has a private gate, with plenty of room inside the gate to park a rental car. The back yard has an outdoor kitchen with hotplates and a wood burning pizza oven. The basement adds an entire separate floor to the house and includes a large living space and a kitchen larger than the one on the main floor. However, we did not use the basement or basement kitchen during our stay because we didn’t need to. There is only one shower/bathtub in the house, but a separate toilet on the ground level. It is only about a 30-minute walk to the center and to the train station, but plenty of parking near the station if you have a car. There is a small children’s park and bar around the corner (2-minute walk) and a large children’s park (Parco Kennedy) is about a 10-minute walk. Nearest grocery store is about a 5-minute walk. Thursday morning market near Parco Kennedy has everything from food to clothing to housewares. If you’re looking for some good food, try Molo 21 (Lungomare Guglielmo Marconi, 21) or Il Bettolino in Piazza Trieste. Thank you to Nicola and Nausicaa and Norberto for being so helpful and accommodating!

Impeccable villa, magnificent setting, superb host

5 of 5
This past October, we were traveling with friends who wanted a more unique experience than the typical upscale hotel, so looking for a bit of an adventure, we jumped in! The Casale Sonnino was the single most important factor in making the our trip to Rome a success. It's a mansion-like villa that sits in the middle of an active vineyard and olive grove. The setting is inspiring, bucolic, and secure. The Casale itself rests on a foundation that is 2000 years old in parts, but the house is fully modern, spacious and absolutely immaculate. It's a quick trip by train or car into Rome, and a terrific base for exploring the best parts of Italy, namely the historic sites, small towns and vineyards within two hours of Rome. George, the owner, is a wonderful host. He was born, raised, and educated in the US, so he speaks perfect English as well as Italian. He is friendly, accommodating, knowledgeable, but never hovers. He frets over every detail, and has a professional staff. We literally couldn't wait to wake up each morning after a good night's sleep in comfortable beds to the waiting breakfast spread overlooking ancient Roman hills. After a long day of sightseeing, we had this beautiful villa to ourselves, including a full kitchen, dining room, and living rooms. These evenings were our favorite part of the trip: we relaxed, ate, drank, talked, surfed the net, and watched a little TV in this incredible mansion. We all agree that the Casale was an excellent value. We got 4-star service, plenty of space and comfort in a place that we could really call home.
