We stayed at this apartment in late summer. We were booking last minute, otherwise we wouldn’t have considered any apartment without A/C. Much to our surprise the apartment was always comfortably cool - even when it was sweltering outside! Maybe it was simply for the fact that it’s at the bottom level of the building, which also makes it very private, or maybe because the building itself is such an old solid structure. In any case there was a ceiling fan that moved the air quite well throughout.
Serena our host was extremely helpful with all our questions and the apartment itself was clean and adorably furnished. The main bed was very comfortable and our kids were great on the fold out sofa (which is a firm cushioned pull out - not one of those awful ones with weak springs). Maybe an oversized couple wouldn’t be comfortable there, but for kids it was perfect. The kitchenette came in handy and the wifi was put to good use as well.
The location can’t be beat. It’s near the Vatican of course but also right next to a wonderful old neighborhood where we often found ourselves the only tourists in some of the authentic and inexpensive restaurants that are scattered around there. In the other direction the neighborhood (we learned) is considered rather posh and there was surely no lack of shopping on the main street there (just a block away). There’s also a wonderful fresh produce market on that street.
The metro is nearby but we found it just as quick to get buses going past the nearby Piazza Cavour (where there is one of the best wine cellars I’ve ever seen!) and even better an express bus near Castel Sant’Angelo that got us home to and from Termini in only 15 minutes! Mostly though we preferred going around on foot - particularly walking over the ‘Angel Bridge’ which leads right into the Piazza Navona area. There was lots of activity along the riverside at night and we always felt safe. All in all, I don’t think you can find better at the price in that neighborhood. I highly recommend it.
