Villa di Montelopio lived up to all my crazy movie-inspired expectations of what a week in a villa in Tuscany should be. Maria, the cook, made us delicious dinners almost every night, taking just Sunday off. She, her helper Maria Paola and the caretaker Tubi were as friendly and helpful as could be. The villa itself is incredible, just as in the pictures.
Just a few caveats: The villa staffers are wonderful, but they barely speak English; pointing and gesturing will get you only so far if no one in your group speaks Italian. Get GPS in your car; it's worth every penny. And if you go in September, buy plenty of bug spray.
But those are just quibbles. Our stay was everything I hoped it would be, and I would go back in a heartbeat.
